Eels are an endangered species. We must conserve them. There is no need to decimate their populations deliberately.

Why is the UK exporting a CITES Appendix II species in rapid local decline?

Disgusted to hear this treatment of an endangered species.

Eels are endangered, propping up demand for them is only making the situation worse.

Commercial gain from this trade is short sighted as can only benefit a minority of people at a cost to widespread ecosystems that offer ecosystem services to the masses. Please support this petition to end this trade indefinitely.

Eel populations have fallen catastrophically: it makes no sense at all to export the young of a highly threatened species.

This is a very worthy and important cause which seems to be ignored by the goverment. Perhaps Hugh Fearnly-Whittingstall could be persuaded to help. His recent campaign on european fishing rules (Fish Fight) attracted a lot of attention. Good luck, regards, Paul.

When the eel population in UK rivers has fallen so catastrophically, it is absurd to allow elvers to be exported.

I'm not saying I enjoy a spot of fishing, but it's safe to say I enjoy a spot of fishing.
