Long long overdue. The Environment Agency is almost a contradiction in terms. This "harvesting" of elvers is an appalling waste of life. I find it hard to believe that this archaic practice continues. If I can assist in whatever capacity, please let me know.

I'm continually stunned that the government bodies treat commercial fishermen like farmers. Farmers have to replant & maintain seed & stock to create a comercial prode

It is a disgrace that elver fishing has been allowed to take place for the last decade or so. The signs of collapse have been clear for years but the EA has continued to allow this form of fishing. Peter Gough head of NRW fisheries has been told about this on several occassions but has consistanly failed to do anything about it. Under his watch the eel, salmon and sea trout populations have collapsed.

It is very important to protect our native species, if we don't show we can do this how can we expect poorer countries todo the same withother endangered creatures.
