Appropriate options need to be in place before we turn sheltered workhop participants out into a community unprepared to serve or support them...CMS needs to give NY State more time to do this in an equitable way that protects the rights of these individuals...and their voices need to be heard when Olmstead indicates that moving out of non-integrated placements should be the choice of the individual!

Someone needs to think ahead to the future. If these people do not have a place to go during the day, what will happen to them? People with disabilities don't just blend into the community they need help to stay safe and be productive in a safe environment. I would hate to see institutions come back after all of the work it took to eliminate them.

Please keep sheltered workshops open to permit people with developmental disabilities work in what may be the least restrictive environment for them.

My sister Bridget worked at the sheltered workshop and loved it. She loved to tell us what she was working on and how many pieces she completed that day. For years her paydays were proud days for her. It didn't matter if she made $50.00 or if she made $5.00. She was just so proud.

Why is OPWDD told to rush into something that is not tested. Isn't this like trying to build an airplane while it's in flight???? SLOW DOWN.
