I work at an ARC in the supported employment department as a job placement specialist. My office is on-site at a workshop. The people who work there learn the hard and soft skills necessary to succeed in community employment. To remove this option is to deny necessary services to those who need our support the most.

I am happy to have my tax dollars spent on this program. Please don't close these centers.

Closing these workshops would be a huge mistake and a very large political blunder. Wake up Albany, we will remember at the ballot box.

As a manufacturer, I was grateful to have a relationship with two different shelter workshops, both of which are now closed. I found the prices of their services were competitive and felt these organizations served an important and noble purpose… I would pay a premium for the opportunity to do business with them again. Unfortunately, I was never given a chance to do so. I don’t understand how it could have been a financial decision as there was never even a discussions about increasing the price of their services. I personally enjoyed visiting these workshops because I was moved by the work ethic of the clients. They were proud of their work. They wanted to contribute. Please give them a chance to do so.

Sheltered workshops provide meaningful work to the disabled, giving them more to their lives than sitting in front of a TV and having nothing to do but wait for the next meal or bedtime.
