I am voicing my opposition to this very short sighted action. Having worked with many of the Sheltered workshops and NYSARC chapters across the state for over 20 years in different capacities, and have seen the incedible work these folks do. The difference it can make in the life of a person with DD is dramatic, and losing this option would be devastating for them. I am urging all involved in this decision to reconsider.

Vocational workshops are an essential part of many people's lives in reaching competitve employment or being able to be employed due to the supports provided from this service. Taking this away is not going to benefit people but hinder people's lives. I ask NYS to reconsider taking this option away from people with disabilties.

We do a disservice to individuals by not recognizing the fact that people with developmental disabilities need the services offered by a program like ARC.

As the father of a daughter employed in a sheltered workshop, I believe it would be to her detriment to take away her job. Dennis Nolan

As the mother of a daughter employed in a sheltered workshop, I beg the state not to close hers. She loves her job, her pay and her fellow co-workers. She takes pride in her work. Don't take this away from her. Jeannine Nolan
The closing of employment center seems to be counter-productive. You have 8,000 people employed and you remove their opportunityto be productive members of society. How devastating woulf that be to them? I strongly oppose the closure of any Sheltered Work Environmentt in New York State.

I work for an organization where 95% of our people work at a sheltered work environment. I could go on to explain the countless ways it would affect our people, but I will just say that I know it would completely destroy their security blanket, make them feel like they can't work for a living, and give them even less of an outlet than they already have. Our PEOPLE need these places to work. I have never known any people with a h

This is a terrible idea! Some cannot work in the community and look forward to the work center. they socialize, learn new skills...ect... Why would anyone want to even do this to them, for what purpose? No closing the work centers! Unemployment rates will skyrocket too!

For some individuals, workshop setting is what they get up for every day. Closing work centers is a terrible idea.

I am not a welder,I am not a physicist or a grocery store clerk, but my options are many according to my own abilities. Should this not be true for all? The opprtunity to work and therefore be self supporting should be a human right for everyone, in accordance with their abilities.

This would be devastating to those are unable to work in a competitive environment.
