This is an embarrassing and elitist proposal. Please do not pass this law. It harms small business owners who have been working hard for all of us for years if not generations. I cannot imagine that the minuscule impact on the environment this would have outweighs the negative impact on small businesses, Rye property values, and the reputation risk to our City as being cliche and out of touch.

Bob you are ill informed or you have not read the proposed legislation:
As of 2023 a vast majority of the properties in Rye will be effected. No gas powered blowers, the city engineer stated "the technology is not there for the commercial blowers". He did not say when the technology would be available so pushing the legislation off to 2023 is not a solution.
§ 122-4 Use of Gas Powered Leaf Blowers Prohibited.
Effective January 2023, during the time that leaf blower use is permitted, only electric blowers
shall be permitted. Gas powered leaf blowers are prohibited at all times.

If you ban blowers you will substantially increase my landscaping costs and affect the overall appearance of my property. Do you plan on offering us a tax break to compensate??

Rachel - the restrictions proposed were enacted several years ago. Anyone of us living outside the R-1 zone is violating the law when a.) we permit "leaf" blowing in the summer or b.) we permit the use of more than 1 blower in the fall. Not saying it's the right thing, just that the so-called ban already exists.

Have any of you actually read the proposed legislation? It fundamentally is the same thing as is already in place. More than half of Rye is exempt - clubs, churches, care giving facilities, and any property in the R1 zoned areas. Absurd. The only real change here is the imposition of a licensing fee on professional landscapers which looks to me, frankly, to simply be a way to raise revenue for the City. So, get all worked up about the proposal, but understand that it's effectively what's already in place.

I have three houses. I cant take care of them all. I mostly live in Paris and I don't care if neighbors are bothered by leaf blowers at my house in Rye.

Leaf blowers are only a problem for people who want to make them a problem. When the City's ready to make the change, then the private contractors can follow its example. Until then, leave matters as they are.

I don't know what the residents of rye think for all the gardeners. I'm an employee and because of that they're going to rest me because of all those people who are against cleaning the leaves of the houses Gracias gringos

I got 2 tickets in less than a week this past week when the only thing we were doing was cleaning the heavy leaves (on the heaviest week of the season) on two different houses while landscapers are allowed to use one leaf blower per house. 1st violation was for multiple equipment. ( two backpack blowers and one mower machine) the 2nd violation was for two backpack blowers. Everyone who works in this kind of job knows that it is extremely hard trying to finish the job efficiently while only having one blower in use. Jobs Can be done twice as fast, and efficiently with the proper equipment, therefore less noice in concentrated areas.

City of Rye, government agencies and schools are EXEMPT!!! Really you guys should really look more carefully at the law. If it doesn't apply to ALL then it should apply to NONE! plain and simple. If the city government is exempting themselves as they can not effectively maintain the city properties then how do you think the professionals are going to effectively maintain their clients properties??? common sense is lacking in government and is why I am looking to not do business any longer in NY as it is not worth the headache and red tape of the so called business friendly state that they touted with their marketing campaigns several years ago. New York is anything but Business Friendly!
