Stop the ban on event shelters at Green Man

How can families with multiple children camp for a week in Wales without a shelter.

I am strongly against this ban. The weather at Green Man is so often rainy that the event shelter we use makes camping life more comfortable giving us somewhere to sit under and also emerge and enter the tent from limiting wet bedding etc. I have been coming to green man for many many years now and often there are groups of 20 of us, and we have always used event shelters - we cover it with lights and bunting and it’s become a part of our experience. Green man is such an eco friendly festival I have never seen event shelters left behind and given the cost of them, they are always reused. We have had ours for years now and it is still going strong! Please don’t enforce this ban, please!

Maybe there was a genuine problem with some people being idiots but certain sections will still leave rubbish etc even with a ban on Shelters. I think you'll find the Settlers almost pristine come Monday teatime. People will find a way round this.

Been to every Green Man since 2007 and every Settlers. I would never want to camp for a week in Wales without some shelter. Think again Green Man, think again.

I do not think this is reasonable in some respects, we don’t take up a huge space and think about this sensibly, we use a small one right in the middle of a group of tents - a space that wouldn’t be occupied by another tent due to guy ropes etc , it is just a living space. I think it’s a pointless ban as people will just bring another tent as a replacement or use tarps or sails to occupy the same place!

We have enjoyed this festival for seven years. To camp for a week without a space to cook and relax with friends in Wales is crazy, andagainst the ethos of the festival in my opinion.

I also agree with the above , cooking in tents is very dangerous . I would like to here GM’s view . Not everyone can afford to eat very meal for a week in the festival / settlers.

Ridiculous decision . Surely this festival is about community . Children and adults eating and being together at down times or early mornings. The festival site is a fantastic place but not open early and not open till the Thursday for those that do settlers. Very limited food at settlers this year especially for those with allergies. Truly feel this is a shortsighted decision and going against ethos of a family/ community/ affordable festival.

If it really is a recycling thing, there are numerous ways to improve this extensively before banning shelters.. they are absolutely necessary in a festival in Wales, where rain is inevitable. It has always been very much a family festival. We have been coming for 12 years. We are deeply disappointed and feel this a money spinning thing to prevent cooking etc so would like honesty about this issue. You could at least allow them for settlers?

Families can't afford to pay for all meals (I'm not sure anyone could). Event shelters are necessary for cooking as well as communal living for a week.

Integeral part of our settlers experience to have a shelter to cook under and sit under for a week, having no shelter will force our four families to most likely bring extra large tents or extra tents to put our kitchen equipment and supplies for a week in which would otherwise be housed under 1 event shelter including chairs, table and 2 cooking areas. This is a real mistake by Greenman and I feel its a real shame this has happened especially to settlers campers

We don't take festival shelters with us, but now that we've just had a baby, we'd probably consider it in the future. We've always liked that at Green Man you have the choice. Families in particular need a space to shelter from the rain (or sun), a space to cook, or a shared space for friends to spend time together when the children are sleeping. We have been for many years and have never seen any abandoned gazebos or tents. It's just not that kind of festival. One of the reasons people love Green Man so much is the relaxed and respectful atmosphere. Please don't push away all the people that make it such a magical happy place.

It’s crucial to have a shelter - this is Crickhowell after all. It rains - a lot. We’re long term GM festival goers. And this year ( as one example of many I could have chosen ) we spent a big chunk of Friday sheltering from the rain. I understand you’re trying to save space but it’s a downer frankly - Rick

Please reverse this or we will stop coming

This is such a fire risk, everyone knows that it is extremely dangerous to cook in a tent.

GM reasoning that gazebos are banned just doesn't hold up. So it must be about more settlers and making more money.

Haha! Yess! But by all accounts (from GM response to message!) it's the people tipping up on Thursday to Settlers who are complaining!
