Dear Baldwin Park Executive Leadership,

On behalf of 5 East and 4 East Med-Surg/Tele RNs, this petition is to halt the routine floating to the Step-Down Unit and/or 2 East to care for SDU patients. Under the current leadership you have allowed the practice of floating nurses to a unit with a higher acuity level without proper training, without annual competencies, with no ACLS. You disregarding patient safety and the risks to our RN licenses and the organization. This practice impacts the delivery of quality care our members deserve. This floating practice has caused frustration, dissatisfaction, stress, anxiety, burnout and low morale. Our RNs are leaving Baldwin Park and some are leaving Kaiser Permanente. It has been your responsibility and accountability for appropriate and safe staffing levels. The only leader to address our concerns has been our CNE, Leila. Her departure will negatively impact the requested change that threatens patient safety and our license. This petition is to memorialize our concerns. This is the safest way to speak up in the current work environment that is not psychologically safe.

August 15, 2023

I am finding it hard to put into words how much it means to see colleagues speaking up about these safety concerns. The stories you are sharing in the comments reflect exactly why we started this and I am just humbled that so many of you felt safe enough to lend your name to this effort.

I am honestly overwhelmed by the response to this petition. It is clear that so many of you share these deep concerns about our units and I am honored that you chose to add your names to this effort. This momentum belongs entirely to you.

floating nurses to SDU without even checking if they have ACLS is a disaster waiting to happen. my license is on the line every shift and management just ignores us. we need real change now before something goes wrong.

working 12 hrs taking care of SDU patients (sometimes 2 are intubated) the level of stress is detrimental to a staff as a person and also to our liscense

All med/surg tele RN should be have equal rights for floating to SDU. We all had 4 years RN training, all med/surg and tele RN should be capable to work in SDU, not only for those in 4E and 5E. We only get 2 days training, the others should be same trained and able to work in SDU. By doing this, all RN can improve their clinical skills and awareness.

We do respect I signing this petition to protect my license and for the safety our patients/ families and our communities. Kaiser is responsible for training everyone appropriately for their designated duties. With enough resources too. In addition, Kaiser lost so many excellent nurses under current management. We have seen and heard that Kaiser is hiring lots of nurses but they don’t realize that same numbers of nurses are leaving too. This gap will never be filled until the management rectifies the problem and find the solution. Laila was our hope she left too. It tells that there is definitely something wrong with this management. I am with my team for safety of all of us. United we stand, divided we fall. Let’s all do it together.

We have continuously voiced our concern to Eugene Cho regarding unsafe floating of 5E and 4E Nurses to SDU without proper training and ACLS.

I have heard multiple complaints from patients and family members about the care at Kaiser Baldwin Park. Number one complaint? No one answers when I call for help. The best solution: better staffing across the board. RN’s, CNA’s, ward clerks. Please help your members and employees by listening and finding a solution to thee problem. Things have only gotten worse since 2019.
