Stop the 28th Street Substation

Not suitable for a NORC. Please do not endanger the most vulnerable. Can be placed close to Penn Station redevelopment project.

MTA already own extensive underground infrastructure and has problems maintaining it. They are notorious for deadline slippage. Can substation, if really needed, be added without digging?

We are a co-op with a large percentage of senior citizens, many of whom are immuno-compromised and very elderly. There are many alternatives for building this substation and I find it horrifying that city officials think that a residential neighborhood is preferable to commercial areas that have only a daytime population and many of those buildings are pretty vacant since Covid. Don’t cave to the mega developers like Vornado. They don’t support middle class housing!

Do not build this structure in our well kept and good life quality complex. People matter more than your business choices and plans!

Any plans that the MTA has for disruption of a residential community needs rethinking! The MTA is overall a train wreck (excuse the pun).

Instead they should blast a huge hole in the middle of Hudson Yards and put the substation there. That city "project", a massive corrupt criminal collaboration between Bloomberg and the real estate cabal, wrecked this neighborhood, and is a blight on the entire area. There, a substation would only disturb the parasite class, who are in deep need of major disturbance.

This is a terrible plan for our community! Please relocate the plan to streets that have fewer vulnerable people.

Given the existence of an appropriate location (on W31st between 8th and 9th Aves) on a block that is about to undergo a full reconstruction for Hudson Yards extension it is in appropriate to put this substation here. The only reason to put this on 28th instead of 31st is you're caving to the more monied real estate interests who are rebuilding 31st. Pay attention to people first and money second.

I oppose the MTA plans for a 28th Street substation

Please find another place to build the substation. There is enough chaos in the area already with Hudson Yards, the demolition of Gristedes the residential building going up on 8th and 23rd and the soon to be debacle of the building of office towers at Penn Station.

The proposed substation would likely increase the noise pollution in this heavily trafficked area and have a negative impact on the quality of life our green space supports in a very congested area of NYC.

I am writing to you at this time because of my concerns regarding the MTA plans to build an electrical power substation on 28th Street between 8th and 9th Avenue. While I always vote, choosing candidates whom I think have good character, who will be ethical and fair, I do not normally take time to express specific issue related communications, believing that my voice will be represented by my elected officials. This time is different. Yes I do reside on the block of the planned substation so I have personal concerns about safety and quality of life issues. Beyond that I also am a cooperator of Penn South/Mutual Redevelopment, and my concerns go beyond the Not In My Backyard type. I know that most of you, if not all of you, are quite familiar with my community because you make regular appearances here (particularly when an election is looming). For nearly 60 years, Penn South has been a model social experiment and a great example of affordable housing at a time when such housing becomes less and less affordable. I myself was on a list for 19 years before having an apartment allocated to me, and I still consider myself lucky to live here. Within this complex, one merely has to sit outside any one of our buildings to witness the diversity and overall sense of community that exists here transcending ages, family make-up, races, ethnicities, gender and sexual orientation, and spanning the range of permitted annual incomes. Where else does this exist in Manhattan, let alone NYC? Such places are few and far between, and I challenge you to find one tas successful as Penn South. The complex itself affords families with children playgrounds, where parents and guardians can interact as the children play. Undoubtedly the largest residential greenspace in midtown Manhattan is here with benches for people to enjoy the sound of birds (as well as the ever present sounds of traffic) and to interact with each other.
