Fix the OLD RINK! PLEASE DO NOT TARNISH our beautiful SERENE NEIGHBORHOOD! We should be building SOMETHING for our Fairwood neighborhood children.... How about the ELEMENTARY SCHOOL that we were PROMISED FIFTEEN YEARS AGO...? WHAT HAPPENED to THOSE FUNDS????
More outside traffic in & THRU our neighborhood has DEFINITELY RAISED the CRIME LEVEL in FAIRWOOD! Just look at what’s happened since MILK & HONEY became a part of this community...! Before the quarantine, and since it opened, it was PACKED EVERY DAY! (I’ve only been a few times, myself...) ALL of the OUTSIDERS, who NEVER EVEN KNEW WE EXISTED, are now privy to our beautiful, affluent neighborhood. In FIFTEEN YEARS I have NEVER SEEN a neighbors car ON BRICKS! (RED ONES) ALL FOUR TIRES GONE!

With people being out of work and schools closed, that 28 million could be used to help parents educate their children. We need more resources for our children 's future.

It’s very disturbing how this dual ice rink has been shoved down our throats. I’m very disappointed in our Council members. We are pushing to make sure the yes votes for this project are not re-elected.

Below are the latest updates from the city. As always, feel welcome to reach out with questions and thoughts!
City Ice Arena
Mayor Adams called today for the city to cancel the ongoing Bowie ice rink project. The previous city council voted last year to move forward with the $25 million two-sheet ice arena. City staff estimate it will cost $7.5 million to cancel our current contract.
While I did not support the ice rink project last year, I don't believe canceling the project now makes the most financial sense.
While the city is facing costs related to COVID-19, city revenues have not been seriously impacted. In addition to federal pandemic relief, the city maintains $29 million in reserve funds for this kind of scenario.
The funds to build the ice arena have already been obtained through bonds and are not coming out of the city's general fund or reserves. Canceling the project will cost the city millions, and will take us back to square one addressing the existing, aging city rink.
While I respect my colleague's views--I'm not a fan of the existing ice project--I would ask them to consider the cost of the city breaking its contract and would want them to develop a clear plan for how to address the existing ice rink which will be unusable in a year.

Our city and our children will have far greater needs in the next few years than we have ever had before. Prudent use of our tax dollars demands a hold on the ice rink to meet these needs.

28 Million!!!!! On a ice arena? Thats $500 per resident (Bowie apx 60k). The Bay Sox A Minor league (Semi Pro) Baseball team played about $17 million stadium.

$28 million is too much for a project that doesn't include a large majority of residents who won't be using that arena. We need a more inclusive sports facility for everyone.
