Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

I am a West Seattle resident, and I feel very stongly opposed to this. This is not the purpose of our parks.

We can do better. Tax me. But do better.

Keep our parks safe for public use.

Homeless people have a difficult situation. Allowing the take over of public parks is not a reasonable solution. The price of this short sighted solution solution is far more costly to our citizens and economy than a number of better solutions. If city Council government wants to take accountability for this problem, then it needs a well thought out and well funded solution. Simply taking away the use/enjoyment of parks and sidewalks from our citizens that have already paid for is a not a reasonable solution.

Seattle's parks are for ALL. Don't turn them into garbage dumps, just like our highways.

This will be devastating to our city neighborhoods already faced with challenging growth and safety issues. It will drive our community apart and put our children at risk. You must find another solution for our upcoming generation.

This Mayor and City Council are ruining this wonderful City. I have lived here for over 50 years and can't believe how they would even consider this concept.

The city parks will become unsafe for children....not from the residents but from their garbage, sewage, and needles. The trash left by these folks will increase park maintenance costs exponentially. Do not let this happen.

I've read carefully through the proposals sponsored by SafeSeattle.org. Their ideas are totally workable; They had a feature in Sunset Magazine a while back. I ask everyone to clink on the link at the end of this petition, and read the proposals suggested. I've seen them carried out in Portland's Pearl District & am delighted that we might be able to move Seattle in this direction. ANY move in Seattle would be a treat! This one especially!

City Council please listen to your constituents and not be swayed by special interest groups that are paid to use this process to gain more support and money. I do not have time to show up in a tee shirt with the slogan of the moment, because I am working. Please conduct the cities business for all not the ridiculous nonsense that is taking place in your chambers.

Do anything to stop the mayor and council on this approach to homeless.

Opening up the parks for homeless encampments is absolutely NOT the solution to the homeless epidemic in Seattle and will result in even larger influxes of homeless people to this city. Parks should be a safe place for families and should be green spaces. Homeless encampments will bring increased crime, drug use and litter into our parks. Shelters and job training are where city money to STOP HOMELESSNESS should be spent - not in initiatives that make it easier to remain homeless.

No sleeping in residential areas or parks where children may play.

This is a terrible idea that will not solve the problem at all.

This is not right. There has to be a better solution than this.

The city also has a responsibility to its tax paying residents to keep our parks safe and clean for all the families that have paid (handsomely) to live in Seattle's neighborhoods.

I don't feel safe already with the homeless people camping at Greenlake. Please don't exacerbate the problem by broading homeless camping priveledges in Seattle's parks.
