Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

I would rather raise taxes to pay for specific subsidized housing.

These homeless encampments are unsanitary and unsafe. We need to protect our children and keep our parks safe and beautiful for all people.

We should be helping homeless people, but this is not the way to do it. It's already been tried before and failed. Why are we going to repeat past mistakes instead of coming up with new ideas?

This is a terrible idea! I have young children and when we go to the various amazing parks in Seattle, I want to feel safe. I don't want to have to worry about trash and needles or the dangers that a lot of homeless people present.

There is a better way. Think about it.

our parks and green spaces need to be safe for all. these people need homeless encampments with services and oversight. just letting them camp in public parks does not include any oversight.

I am concerned for the safety of my family and neighbors. I have cleaned up syringes and needles in my yard due to the surge of homeless encampments and squatters in the neighborhood.

Another bad idea by our city council

Allowing the homeless to camp in Seattle is a safety concern for neighborhoods and safety. Allowing the homeless to camp in parks would deter their use for intended purpose - and that is to provide recreation for children. A healthy and active outlet which they desperately need. Just look at the homeless encampments in the city. The area surrounding it is disgusting and a health hazard. There is garbage, cigarette butts, empty beer cans, needles, and human feces in the area OUTSIDE of the camp. This is too hazardous for city workers and contractors cannot come in time to clean this up. The crime rate is high. I do not feel safe at home and I worry about my home and my pets when I'm at work. I pay a heavy premium for living in Seattle. I work hard, pay my taxes, pay extra rent and property tax that subsidizes section 8 and homeless encampments. Please stop wasting my hard earned money. Stop enabling the homeless at the expense of those of us who are carrying society. You need to address the real problem. Get the them mental help. Get them in a real shelters. Allowing them to camp in public parks and wherever the hell they want is not the answer.

It is not safe nor fair to allow homeless encampments in public parks and other public spaces.

There's better solutions; find them.

Don't turn our parks into homeless encampments. Find a different solution - for our city, for our kids and the homeless themselves.

Please have a better plan for the homeless and don't turn our parks into their home. It is not fair to them and to all of us. Thank you, Kathleen
