Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

This is a bad idea, and should not proceed. City Council people need to rethink this petition. It's a bad idea to use our parks for this purpose.

We need to do something to house the neighbors among us that are unsheltered. However, allowing camping in our open parks and green spaces that are utilized by our children is not a solution.

This is a grab to privatize public land, the same as the gun-toting invaders of Malheur Refuge wanted to do. Once Seward Park is divvied up and taken over by formerly homeless people, neither the next wave of homeless people nor the public nor the Pacific Wrens will be welcome there.

This cannot happen, I already have to limit what parks I can bring my two young children to. This will make it worse. Please take vacant property from negligent owners to supply housing for those that need it.

STOP this bill - protect our children and their safety at parks and their school grounds.

There are no places in parks suitable for camping. Undeveloped space is what gives many parks their value to us. Buy land and create suitable locations.

This is indescribably irresponsible and actually will harm the very people it is attempting to help.

I am interested in the empathetic solution to the growing homeless epidemic, but I do not think this is the solution.

Please! I urge you to not allow homeless people to put children at risk with possible human waste, drug paraphernalia, which can cause LIFELONG health issues to kids if exposed!!! We need to find another solution!

I am not in favor of having homeless camps in public parks. Why would you put children at risk and inconvenience people in general. Do not let camps in our public parks at all.

I strongly disapprove of allowing homeless people to camp in our public parks, sidewalks, etc, which are kept clean and safe for the use of all the public. Unfortunately, many homeless suffer from mental illness and/or have a history of drug/ alcohol abuse, both of which put our kids at risk to play in and enjoy the public spaces we pay for. Garbage left behind attracts pests and damages nature. This is no solution for homeless people, who need far more than a place to put their stuff and sleep.

I am really worried about being able to go to the park with my son. As it is I have found needles in parks. I am worried that needles will increase in parks. Please don't punish families. I believe there has to be a better solution that keeps the homeless and us safe.

Homeless people belong in homes, rehab facilities, mental health facilities or other places where they can get the help they need. Not only does the proposed ordinance note help them, this law will lead to the devastation of our parks that we all have a right to use safely. It will also adversely impact protected wetlands, soils and environments. Finally, it will most likely attract more homeless persons from other locations to the City of Seattle, where they will expect to be provided free camping or other suitable housing.

No; this is wrong. We need leadership and shelters. This will not help the problem.
