Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

These badly flawed proposals seem designed to punish Seattle homeowners, while the suits in their meetings around their polished tables wring their hands as they continue to fail the public: Seattle's homeowners, renters and the homeless themselves.

I live near these parks. Allowing the homeless to set up camp in the parks we work hard to preserve is bad for them, our community and our ecosystems.

What in the world is up Seattle council members? Do they not live in Seattle?

the homeless can NOT have our parks. Whats Next.. national parks... of course not .. because that isn't what a park is for.

Public parks are for use by everyone, not the now selected few. I trust the city council members are the first to offer their front sidewalks and parking strips for tents.

The proposed plan truly makes NO sense. We have to find a solution, but this is NOT it! The Portland plan or anything similar will our parks and make them undesirable for their intended uses, and that will, in turn, ruin our city. I am so strongly opposed. Vote NO!!!!

Please focus on providing temporary housing, not unsafe campsites.

Please take action and address homelessness in a better way.

This plan is crazy!! What about the rights of all the hard working tax payer in the city?? You are driving all the tax payer out of the city!!!

I am urging the Seattle City Council to carefully study Portland's trial of these allowances of homeless encampments. IT WAS A DISASTER! Unintended consequences MUST be considered!! We need to take our city back. Too much has happened and we have the tail wagging the dog. Enough is enough and we hard working, tax paying citizens have some rights, too.

Please don't allow camping in our parks. It is not okay.

Can government comes up with some actual useful policy to help homeless people, e.g help them learn some skills, make a living and be useful to the whole society, instead of such meaningless action? Also, who grants the City Council the right to jeopardize tax payers of this city? So-called "democrats"?

Please support our existing homeless service providers rather than undercutting them with this short-sighted bill.

Parks are not for camping. Parks are for families. We should feel safe in parks. Homeless need a place to go but parks are not the answer.

Please don't allow the homeless to camp in our parks where our kids play. I am empathetic to the issue of homelessness, but this is not the solution. Please sign if you are as concerned as I am.

Start working to make this city livable for those of us who actually work, live and pay taxes. I was born here and this council seems to be doing all in can to ruin our city

I have also written letters to each council member stating all of these points.

NO to moving the homeless into the parks. It would be a disservice to everyone and is masking the problem, not providing a real solution. I propose a more productive way to make this better and help the homeless, is to start requiring more from them. Continuing to require nothing from them is perpetuating the problem and actually making it worse. If they want to eat they need to help make their food and clean up afterwards. If they want a place to sleep they need to help take care of the city like sweeping the streets, caring for the landscaping and/or helping to build housing for themselves and others. Instead, the belief everyone is owed is perpetuated. I am sensitive to realize some of these people need real help but many are very capable and choose this lifestyle. They demand a place to sleep and a meal but are not willing nor are they required to work for it. They protest and shake their fist in the air like it is their right to be supported by the government (taxpayers). That is not true. Also, "free spirit" is not an excuse to mooch. The way it is now… when someone is kind enough to bring them food they leave the trash on the ground. They openly do drug deals and take the drugs on the city streets and in the parks (City Hall Park, Occidental Park, etc.) but there is no law enforcement around to make it difficult for them to get away with this. Making it easy for them to live this lifestyle serves no one. Everyone needs to be required to contribute to society in some way. Opening the parks to this epidemic is only increasing the square footage and reacting to the symptom… not solving the real problem.

No tents in our parks!

I always vote for taxes to go to parks, and serving those in need. However, this is not good for everyone. The parks should be safe and available for the public. With folks living in the parks, it won't be safe. People need affordable housing, not to squat on public lands.
