Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

I want this voted down. Campsites are not the answer

I don't want knife fights, gunshots, rapes, drug dealing, drug and alcohol abuse and garbage piling up in the parks I like to visit.

Please look at what other cities are doing and follow suit. Let's show everyone that we can do this. Step up to the plate.

The city parks should be safe places for residents to go with their families. There should be no camping for anyone in Seattle parks.

Not the best solution at all

"Homeless people belong in homes, rehab facilities, mental health facilities or other places where they can get the help they need." ...... Sadly tax payers don't want to pay taxes to support these .. you can thank Reagan for most of the mentally ill being out on the street .. and the large corporate owned apartments where people can't afford to live . I tried moving last spring , my credit rating is average . the apartment management company wants 1st , last and deposit equal to 1 months rent .. the rent was $1200.00 ... that's $3600.00 to move in .

Absolutely opposed to this!! This is unsafe for our children, our community and our neighborhoods! We need to provide housing and services and deal with the real issues of homelessness such as drug addiction and mental health.

Seattle's gorgeous Parks are some of the best things about the city. Please, keep them clean and safe for children, families, and citizens to enjoy!

Our parks and green belts are not a luxury but a necessity--sanctuaries for wildlife and a place of renewal for the urban soul--and as such, we need to protect these areas and our experience of them with great intention. I am dumbfounded that the city council believes that opening these spaces up to the homeless for camping actually serves that population in any real sense! It in no way offers any sort of solution to the problems the homeless face and instead creates new issues of many sorts for everyone else. And once begun, when and how does it ever stop? The most intelligent and liberal citizens I know are all as upset as I am about this suggestion. It makes me question the basic common sense of some of our city council members and our leadership in general.

I moved to Greenlake three years ago, and I have nearly ceased walking on the trails through Woodland Park and Carkeek Park because the woods are becoming overrun with the homeless. The shelters and restrooms have become overrun as well, including out of state cars that park near Woodland Park shelters. Campers set up in the parking lot, and it is unpleasant for many of us by ourselves to come to the park. I don't even like to walk my dog through the park for fear of needles and food left on the ground. At the top of Carkeek Park, there is a sign to report various situations of inhabiting the park after hours, yet I have walked past several tents and garbage on the grass and near picnic tables. This is a disgrace for the city of Seattle and our City Council. This is unfair for the average citizen of Seattle. There must be a better solution. Do not tolerate this kind of activity.

I'm afraid to use my own parks, even now -- BEFORE this ruling! This is horrible.

This would greatly endanger the safety of children, women and men visiting the parks and would destroy the forests. Surely there are other, most suitable ways to accommodate homeless people and to help them. Helping one part of the population should not be necessarily connected to infringing the rights of others or to damaging our parks.

As one of the many citizens who helps pay for these parks and keeping them clean with my taxes, PLEASE hear our please to keep the homeless people OUT of them. Take a look around, camping in our parks is NOT the right answer to this problem.

I sinserly hope our city counsel can find a better solution. This program would devastate our parks environmentally as well as making enjoying the natural beauty of Seattle unsafe for tax paying families. This is not a solution to help house homeless people, just to move them to a new location. The poor outcomes were demonstrated in Portland. Let's find a solution that addresses the real problem. Do not destroy our parks, and our ability to enjoy them!

You don't kick other people out of neighborhoods when there is a bad incident. This is a lazy solution to a terrible problem. AND it's treating homeless people terribly to force them to move, etc. City Council has had several consultants come in and have chosen to ignore all of them.

The homelessness epidemic has got to stop. Get these people help.

We live next door to a green belt in west seattle and have homeless drug users occasionally living there and our neighborhood has had break ins. Please don't allow this. I have small children.

Giving our public parkland for the exclusive use of campers is a violation of public trust, and makes it impossible for the rest of our citizens to use our parks in safe, sanitary, ecologically sound manner. Provide HOUSING, don't destroy our parks and make our green belts into Jungles.

You've got to be kidding me. I'm fine if you want to build affordable apartment complexes and ultimately tax me for it. But don't be foolish and send the homeless into public parks to squat. Hopefully this is just a mock campaign to bring awareness to the homelessness issue in Seattle. Because this ain't the solution for sure.
