Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

I live adjacent to Alki play field and teach first grade. This is insane!

Having homeless people camp on our sidewalks and parks is stupid, and scary. I know that many homeless people are addicted and mentally ill, but I do not want them living in a place I take my granddaughter to. Come up with a rational plan to help them. The council is good at coming up with plans that use our tax dollars irresponsibly (i.e. the Pronto program). They need to try to represent the majority of Seattle residents, the ones who vote for them and pay huge amounts of taxes. We want safe, clean, city parks. I don't think that is too much to ask for. I wish we could replace everyone but Tim Burgess on the council, but all I can do is say I am STRONGLY opposed to housing the homeless in the places we have set aside to enjoy a taste of natural beauty and tranquility in an increasingly crowded urban environment.

This park is full of kids. Are you kidding me?

Public parks are no place for private homes.

Be prepared for the trash and impact if you don't take care all the community. Discuss and fear will grow from the general public. We live close to homeless site and the trash dumping and needles are a huge issue in the community and all I can do is call every week and ask for clean up and pick up.

That is a horrible idea! It leaves our children and neighborhood parks and Playfields unsafe! You are putting our children in danger and pushing them out of our parks.

This does nothing to solve the problem of homelessness and will have consequences beyond measure including jeopardizing the health and safety of other community members. Any and all community members should have equal access to our parks - including those without homes, but our parks were not developed with the services needed to allow for camping and will certainly not be available for all now or in the years to come if we allow ongoing camping in these areas.

Please stop trying to find an easy way out at the expense of city dwellers. Work toward providing organized solutions instead of temporary, haphazardly established encampments.

This proposal needs further comment and vetting time. Our parks would be destroyed within a month.

This is not a viable solution to the larger issue and will only cause greater problems.

Vagrancy should be illegal. Find some way to house these people or put them in jail. There should be no people living on the streets.

Save our city from our city council!

Please vote NO it's the right thing to represent the majority of the people in seatttle and more importantly a no vote is a yes vote for our children!!!!

We need to provide housing, not public parks and sidewalks.

I heard city councilor O'Brien yesterday on the radio and was disappointed in his rationale 'we have to do something.' In my experience this is usually a terrible reason to do anything!!!

I believe that we have a responsibility to do our share to help homeless in Seattle but not at the expense of our beautiful park system or Public safety. I voted yes for the parks levy, not for this Seattle is already becoming a Mecca for homeless. We can't handle the already overcrowded homeless population.

Our children need safe spaces to run and to experience nature. Parks are sometimes the only areas of freedom and "wildness" for inner city children. Please build maintained shelters for homeless and keep our parks safe for children.
