Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

Please do not allow the homeless to take over our parks and sidewalks.

Did not work in Portland, will not work here !

We need better elected officials.

Stop enabling bad behavior and attracting out of town homeless to seattle. Enforce public use laws. Make it safe and clean again. Seattle is an embarrassment.

Homeless should not be allowed to camp in public parks

This is not a viable solution to the problem.

It is a stopgap measure that will drain resources that should go towards more permanent solutions. The tent cities for short term make more sense to me than random camping sites for safety, delivery and coordination of services.

Please reconsider this proposal. This bill is not a viable solution to our homless problem.

Attn: Sally Bagshaw and the other members of our city council- PLEASE do not vote to pass the council bill now or in the future. I am a long time (28 years) retail business owner and lifetime resident. I have always supported measures to help our residents that need help and shelter, and am a true "bleeding heart Liberal", but I am becoming cynical and disdainful of those that take advantage of our generosity and lack of enforcement of basic rules to protect our homes, streets and businesses.

Nobody, homeless or otherwise, should be allowed to camp in our court parks. I have encountered human feces in city parks where homeless have been camping. This is a sanitartion problem worse than ordinary garbage. Needles and human waste do not belong in our parks. Safety first. Compassion for the homeless is needed and they should be part of the solution. Homeless people are not a monolithic group because there are many causes but most just want affordable housing. All our effort should be redirected to permanent solutions.

As a citizen of Seattle I do not see this as a solution to homeless issues. Seattle needs to work with cities and counties across to the state to address the issue in addition to the measures being taken here. Otherwise, we are subsidizing those areas and taking an unfair burden. Seattle cannot nor should its mission be to provide these resources to any and all comers from across the state and country. We need humane responses in the context of the state and country.

No one should be allowed to "camp" on our sidewalks or parks. I pay taxes for the use of our parks and expect to be able to enjoy their beauty and peacefulness. I don't want to walk around used needles; feces; trash and pit bulls. Why can't each homeless person be evaluated for the type of assistance they need, i.e. addiction and mental health and get them that help. If they are fine and want to live on the streets, then Seattle is not the answer for them.

City parks are not appropriate places to camp. I live next to Discovery Park and I'd love to sleep out there every once in a while during the summer but I cant...it's designated for wildlife habitat. If folks need to camp, we should make authorized encampments available to them in non-impact zones. And if they don't like the rules, well, we ALL (myself included) have to follow some rules to live in society. If they can't follow basic rules, they need to live away from society on their own without benefit of society's services. This ordinance is sacrificing our parks and open spaces; it's not a solution. My older addict sister has been homeless so I am familiar with 20+ attempts at substance abuse treatment that have not worked because she's not really ready to change, and her ranting about how everyone has done her wrong. Camping is necessary for some and is okay (ideally temporarily) but only if controlled and managed for safety, cleanliness and no impact to surrounding areas. Thank you.

Council members, please do not make the same terrible mistake Portland made. Find another solution!

This bill is ill-thought out and would harm our city. It needs much more work.

This plan is insane. How about protecting the rights of the tax payers and stop allowing people to take advantage of an environment that encourages lazy, unmotivated behavior. Lets spend our time and resources providing training, jobs.

Please, parks are for people to enjoy and not worry about drugs, death, chaos, and bizarre behavior. Figure out how CEA can be more effective!!!

Families should not need to check our parks and fields for used needles before playing. Use our tax dollars to support the safety of our children.

This bill is outrageous and a terrible idea. Any council member who votes for this bill should be voted out of office -- along with the mayor. Do not destroy the quality of life in our cities with this misguided attempt to protect the homeless over the majority of tax-paying citizens and their families who use and value these parks.
