Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

Please scrap this plan. Other cities have better, more thought out plans. Take the time to research the best and most effective ideas used by others.

We moved here to get away from this disaster in SF. Because the city did not anticipate this.. by allowing an open city policy for homeless.. the others in your city should not have to pay the price. be locked into their homes. not be able to peacefully, safely walk the streets or parks.. and thats how it is getting here. in ten short years. that we've been here. its changed dramatically. we have worked with homeless agencies at home, and understand the depth of the problem, but this is not the answer. We cannot pay this type of money , in your now inflated economy because of major corpporations like Amazon etc. making it unaffordable for regular, and retired people, and then not be able to feel safe anywhere. You will ruin this like SF. which used to be the best city in the west. Seattle had that opporutnity and its killing it. killing it. Put more of the cities money into solving the problem, find other models from other places , PARTNER with the multi billion dollar companies here.. they need to invest in the city more and more. or not even their spoiled IT people will want to live here. but do not do this now . do not. short term emergency solutions only come back to bite you in the end. You are putting this group 's needs before everyone else by doing this. Yes, they need shelter, and medical care, and yes our society as awhole has failed peole with mental illness and drug addiction.. but this is not the answer. build small houses, and provide the psychiatric and medical care needed. Thats between city, state and feds to get their acts together. Make it a jt. private and civic responsibility with partnerships.. push the corporations here more.. they have billions of dollars. we need a tax structure that gets that money and specifically earmarks it for this need. At my advanced age, I cannot live in fear. Stay locked up in my apartment. nor should I. and honestly, i'll look for a legal way to stop this. Class action law suits. or if i get injured

This didn't work in Portland. It wont solve the problem. Our beautiful city will be less livable if the parks are homeless camps. We need a comprehensive plan for homelessness and this is not a plan.

Not only will this sully our neighborhoods and shops, it will divert valuable monies from being used to construct actual housing for these folks.

This ordinance would create an incentive to camp on school grounds, threatening children's safety. The current proposal does not explicitly prohibit school grounds, only that is could potentially be categorized as “unsuitable”. While we are waiting for that designation, camping would be allowed. Even if school grounds become “unsuitable”, then camping is still ok for 48 hours. Campers would potentially get a check for $250 at the end of that 24 hours, creating an incentive to camp there. This ordinance was a rush job & hasn’t been thought through. The mayor has a thoughtful plan, this type of policy failed in PDX, & the Council blindly took a rush job policy from ACLU. This makes no sense.

The plan to allow camping is missing the point and is not a foundation for the long term larger challenge we face.

We don't want the nation's homeless to all flock to Seattle. Our charity and naitivity is being challenged here, let's draw the line now.

It's absurd to think you can walk out of your front door and have a potentially dangerous person living on a public strip.

Please don't encourage more homeless people to move to Seattle and camp and trash public property. This measure was wildly unsuccessful in Portland; let's not repeat their mistake.

Parks need to be safe places for the public.

City Council is out of control and needs to be replaced!

The homeless camping situation in Seattle is out of control and is a disgrace. Allowing camping across our city is no solution to the problem.

Our parks are vital to the quality of life in Seattle. Keep them clean and safe for all. Let's learn from Portland's failed experiment to open spaces.

This is a terrible plan! Look to cities that have discouraged homelessness and been successful.

as a resident of seatlle I feel we are all being taken advantage of by the people arriving in our city knowing they can camp in a tent or an RV anywhere with virtual impunity

Please do not enact Council Bill 118794. Tax us in order to afford the services these people need, but under no circumstance should camping be allowed in the city anywhere. Thanks for listening, John R. Hopkins West Seattle

My neighborhood is already affected severely by routine lawlessness, theft, trespass and garbage stemming from a nearby illegal green belt encampment. There is no adequate law enforcement for this. The public camping proposal will make my neighborhood life and that of my neighbors worse, ensuring our lives become even more characterized by routine hostile encounters, garbage and insecurity.

This will not get appropriate shelter for homeless people and will, sadly, increase hostility toward them from those who don't respect them as human beings.

Another terrible piece of proposed legislation from the City Council. Instead of taking steps to solve the homeless issue, the City Council's proposal will only serve to increase the problem.

I am deeply disturbed and disappointmented with their approach to this problem. This does not help address the problem and may actually encourage others in surrounding communities to come to Seattle and utilize the proposed system,
