Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

I am against Council Bill 118794

I feel for the homeless but this just isn't the answer.

No parks, streets, etc. No homeless except in shelters!! Bus them back to Portland!

Approving "urban camping" legislation is an affront to our citizens who collectively support the infrastructure and the livability of this amazing city. The concept is a euphemism for condoned helplessness and homelessness. Resources need to be directed at temporary shelter in appropriate spaces and social services rather than toward policing the predictable conflicts and lawless sequellae this legislation would foster.

If this passes, my entire family is voting Republican in all local races. Unfortunately, this has driven us to the other side.

This was way out of hand 2 years ago...

We have lost our way in not spending all of our efforts to provide mental health support, housing, and addiction recovery services for those in need. To allow an expansion in camping is a distraction from this effort that jeopardizes the sense of safety and access for all to our public lands and the common good of Seattle.

This helps no one.

Keep residents of Seattle safe. Please see that this approach did not work in Portland. Seattle needs a much better plan dealing with the homeless.

I disagree with the City Council's desire to allow urban camping. Why are they ignoring what happened in Portland? If a developer can build a building within 6 months...why can't City of Seattle do the same thing to create housing for the homeless. Seems simple; but, I think they've created too much red tape to be efficient. This ordinance will only increase homelessness!

This is the same type of plan that the City of Portland just tried, and it failed miserably. Why would Seattle consider doing this knowing it will not work, and create unsafe Parks and Streets for everyone

Please use my tax dollars in a more productive manner. Allowing homeless to destroy our Parks and put the public in danger was not what I had in mind.

It's not safe to let homeless people camp in our public parks! That's what shelters are for! Kids go to these parks to play and have fun, and having these spaces be overrun with homeless people (who could sometimes even be dangerous!) is not okay and not safe! Let's consider the safety of our children!!!

This legislation will provide homeless persons with more rights to public spaces than those of us who pay taxes to support them. This is unjust and does not support a pathway to meaningful housing. I absolutely do not support this legislation.

Please look into other solutions

Having encampments in parks will kill off seattle tourism. Homeless people deserve better than tents. Housing first! Not tent camps. Not parks. Housing first.

This bit of legislation is just wrong. We need to find another solution. What is the City Council thinking?

As other posters have noted, this same plan was a FAILURE in Portland. Find out what was successfully done in other cities, and do that instead.
