Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

I fully support this petition!

We are sympathetic to the challenges faced by the homeless and the best solution to the problem can be debated. But it is certainly NOT to allow unrestricted (and protected) camping at City Green-spaces, Parks and Playfields.

Moving the homeless on to park land will not solve the problem only cause a back lash on the people you are trying to help. Parks are not for camping.

I think we can do better for the homeless than this. We don't want to turn public parks into flop-houses. It's not sustainable for the homeless population, and it's not good for others who use these public spaces. Do a better job!

We need serious and considered solutions to support our homeless residents and this is not it! If City Council adopts this bill, it is a serious abdication of their responsibilities to the citizens of this city, to the homeless of this city and to our city's green spaces and public parks.

Soccer fields should be for soccer. Our kids deserve that much. Lets find another way to help the homeless

Good intentions, bad legislation.

I'm concerned about our parks and play fields. My family uses them year-round, and I'm concerned about the safety around homeless encampments. At a minimum, you must prohibit camping around play fields for the safety of children. But please also consider the impact on our beautiful parks and the many people who use them for recreation.

The council should look at how London deals with homeless. They are not sleeping on the streets in London.

I don't like this proposal. There are better solutions.

It didn't work in Portland and it hasn't worked here.

Please find a better solution that will keep our parks clean and accessible to families who pay taxes to maintain these parks. Allowing the homeless problem to move into our neighborhoods is not a good option.

This ordinance does nothing to address the underlying issues causing homelessness.

Public spaces are for everyone to enjoy responsibly, not for housing.

This bad idea creates an extremely high public safety risk and will completely decimate the parks all of us taxpayers just paid for with a blank check we wrote to the parks department for restoration and maintenance. The homeless need housing, education and work programs. The lawless need to be dealt with accordingly. I am completely against this terrible idea!

Find a better solution to help the homeless.

This bill must be stopped. Portland tried and failed. Why would we want to repeat their mistake?

My property adjoins Carkeek Park. We have significant illegal camping and prostitution issues with accompanying hazards to life, liberty, health, and property. The City of Seattle must not make camping legal in city parks. It is a disgrace that the city is even considering this imposition on tax-paying, law-abiding citizens. Do not remove tools for law enforcement that are already overstretched.

This is a huge mistake and can not pass as it is. We must Stop this bill
