Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

parks are for families and children, not homeless people. If the homeless move in the families and children will be pushed out due to safety concerns.

I have worked for 42 years as a professional landscape architect and park and trail designer for Seattle Public Parks.

This is not an appropriate solution for housing the homeless. The negative impacts for the environment and the community are extensive.

In life we need to protect those who cannot protect themselves. The children in parks need to be our first order of business. We cannot knowingly set up an environment where they will no longer be safe.

Ridiculous! Stop looking out for the damn homeless people and start caring about the kids and the parents that pay an insane amount of taxes in this state.

I am against this proposal.

This ordinance is fatally flawed and must be redrafted with reasonable approaches that do not give open camping permission for our parks and neighborhoods.

I am a volunteer forest steward at Frink Park. After 16 years of community work, it is now an inviting and safe place for families. Please do not change it into an unsafe/undesirable escape from the pressures of urban living. It is challenging enough to manage the dog poop, unauthorized mountain bikers, and irresponsible pet owners who insist on off leash animals. I would not be able to continue my work if there are homeless campers in my work area. Thank you.

No. Just no. My kids don't need to deal with needles and human waste in the places where they play.

After asking for and receiving funding to our parks from us the taxpayers, the city council now wants to destroy the parks for the families who are paying for the parks! Time to vote them out!!!!

This is enablement. We are ruinning our city for the greater population because we are not willing to properly address the root causes of homelessness, addiction and mental illness, and instead spend money on enabling and causing distress to the rest of the population and loss of quality of life. We need to address the issues in a responsible manner mentally ill people never think they have a problem but, we are to suffer the consequences of no mandatory care for abatement of their issues exists or is required...same on drug addiction. Really! It is disgraceful, shame on us.

This is complete idiocy! This is not taking care of the homeless. Go upstream, solve the problem of mental illness,addiction etc., don't just transfer the problem to the public spaces paid for by tax paying citizens. Seriously, it's a complete embarrassment that this is even up for consideration. Do your homework.

I'm not heartless. But there should be a disincentive to discourage people from coming and jamming up this already overloaded city infrastructure.

The plan proposed by the Seattle City Council has already been tried in Portland and didn't work, why would they think it would work here?

There is empathy and there is insanity. This is insanity.

I cannot believe this idea will benefit homeless families and children in providing them a safe and long term home.

Of all the ideas the city has had, this has to rank among the worst. Please preserve our parks for the use they are intended.
