Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

Seattle City Council, Please do not enact Council Bill 118794. This is the wrong choice for everyone who uses our parks and it is the wrong choice for helping end homelessness in Seattle. The homeless deserve permanent solutions. This proposed bill is a lose-lose for the whole city. Thank you.

We need good solutions to address homelessness in Seattle, I do not think opening public parks to unsupervised, unstructured camping is a good solution, I strongly oppose it. I would prefer that other solutions such as requiring developers in Seattle to include affordable housing in their plans like High Point in West Seattle were implemented. Seattle City Council, do not offer our public parks as a solution to homelessness, what a mess.

I am a native Seattleite currently finishing graduate school in California. I am about to move back to Seattle with my family, but this new proposal is making me think twice about the move. I visit Seattle several times a year, and I have already noticed an increase in the amount of garbage and crime surrounding homeless camps in the city. This proposal would only move crime and drugs closer to neighborhoods and schools. The solution is not to make it easier to be homeless, the solution is to provide services to help people STOP being homeless.

Camping is not a housing solution. Find vacant buildings of any kind to provide shelter until suitable housing can be provided.

Portland tried this....DID NOT work. Learn from their mistake.

Keep our parks safe and clean

Please help homeless people get help. Parks don't help.

Continuing down this road is going to do nothing to improve this city, and will in fact make it far worse for everyone who works to contribute to it.

VOTE No, homeless camping should not be allowed in Parks. There are safey issues for people and kids that use those areas. If you vote yes you are not representing your people.

Homeless people belong in homes, rehab facilities, mental health facilities or other places where they can get the help they need. Not only does the proposed ordinance note help them, this law will lead to the devastation of our parks that we all have a right to use safely. It will also adversely impact protected wetlands, soils and environments. Finally, it will most likely attract more homeless persons from other locations to the City of Seattle, where they will expect to be provided free camping or other suitable housing.
