Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

This is the most misguided piece of legislation I have seen in my 24 years in Seattle. It should be scrapped.

Please do not pass this bill. It is not the solution to the problem, it just moves the problem. And for little benefit puts the health and safety of the rest of the city at risk. Better and more permanent solutions need to be found. This is not it.

Also consider tyhe social impacts--kids and adults afraid to use the parks. Partks that we taxpayers pay for.

We need real solutions that provide real assistance to help those without a home. This isn't it. If we can pay for libraries and parks we can do this. Where are our leaders?

I absolutely oppose this bill. Seattle is a very generous city but there has to be some limit to what we are asked to tolerate and this is way beyond that line.

Spend tax dollars to find a REAL and at least workable solution to homeliness in Seattle

Please do not pass this bill. Is it not good for Seattle and I fear for the safety of my children if this is passed.

Please strongly consider deferring the vote on this petition until more analysis and study can be done to determine the full impact and investigate alternatives.

The amount of debris and dangerous trash is already astonishing. We have elementary age kids in running programs at Woodland Park who had to see drug deals happen in broad daylight in the bathrooms and tents blocking the running paths that taxpayers paid for. This is completely unacceptable and the city has to do something about it.

I respectfully oppose council bill 118794. A full study and cost should first be conducted and not allow the council to blindly throw money and over react to a problem they have created over the years that is now causing an emergency. Public parks should not be used to house them as they get trashed out and garage and unsanitary conditions develop and yet we take our family's to these parks to relax and enjoy themselves not to feel unsafe and be exposed to unsanitary conditions and the ugly site it would create. We pay enough in taxes that the city should be providing services and not passing it on to the citizens in higher taxes to pay for it.

There are better ways to help, this is absolutely the wrong way to be going with this probelm. It will only create a bigger issue.

I agree with Tim Burgess. I do not think this Council Bill should be enacted.

This Bill is idiocy upon idiocy.

Burgess's plan sounds a bit more reasonable. I've been in some of these camps that they are garbage pits. I couldn't believe the amount of trash. I personally can't support having homeless camps in parks and green spaces. I think getting them off the street is better but I don't think all of them will want that. I think looking at the basic underlying problems of each individual and addressing the core cause would be most effective. Mental illness, addiction, undocumented illegal aliens, criminals, families down on their luck,or lack of education and ability to get out of the cycle. All significant issues that can't be addressed with out some serious resources and $$.

We should vote on this. Period.

Seattle has never been richer yet is taken over by trash and shanty housing everywhere. We should not encourage this. We need real solutions for homeless in Seattle. Not to create a permanent underclass.

This proposed bill by the Seattle City Council is reckless and irresponsible. It is a shirking of their duties to provide sound commensense policies for the benefit of Seattle residents and taxpayers.

Please listen to tax paying citizens. The city Council is dead wrong on this. I live directly above The Jungle. (Since 1986). This problem is more than 20 years old. My wife was held at gunpoint (in our driveway) and told to "get on her knees or I'll kill you". Her purse was stolen, but could have been much worse. The perpretrator was a homeless person living in the Jungle. Please keep these encampments swept. Please keep public safety first. People should not be living outdoors. If we allow this council proposal, our problem will mushroom and be even worse than it is now.
