Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

A lot of these people are convicted felons, such as sexually violent predators, child molesters, rapists, domestic violence perpetrators, robbers,thieves. This is outrageous and should never have gotten this far. See you at election time.

Do not do this. We do not want public spaces to be turned into homeless campgrounds with their drugs, trash, etc.

As a volunteer forest steward with the Green Seattle Partnership, I urge you not to move forward with the plan to allow camping in our parks and greenbelts. I have seen first hand the damage and disruption this kind of camping causes. It would be a shame to see our city allow this behavior.

This plan has already been tried in Portland just this year and failed miserably, leading to an increase in homelessness and encampments. It, in fact, encourages homelessness and does nothing to help the homeless move forward into housing, rehab, etc.

Lets find a place (s) to designate for homeless camping and provide services. More tent cities!

This proposal is just kicking the can down the road .. and into the park. Homelessness is a real problem in Seattle, and only getting worse as our city becomes increasingly unaffordable. But, the solution is definitely not to turn our parks and open spaces into permanent encampments. To be equitable, we need to raise property taxes to build inexpensive tiny houses to provide secure spaces where people can rebuild their lives, and to prevent those from turning into a new form of permanent slum, they need to be spread throughout the city.

If this is proposed how about we go sleep on the sidewalks of the city council?

This intended action by City Council is premature and is not favored by homeowners, parents, and others living in Seattle. Council members are elected and supposed to represent us - why is it pursuing an action so potentially harmful to Seattle residents? Portland's experience has been a disaster. Actions like this would drive me and my tax paying revenue out of Seattle.

I pay property taxes to keep the parks maintained for the use of all, not just those staking claim where they wish. So if someone camps in the parking strip in front of my house in a residential area it would take a month to move them off, if the police deem it worth their time? Really?

Please keep our parks safe and beautiful by not allowing homeless camps. We will just attract the homeless from all over the country to camp here since the city "allows" it.

The associated costs of monitoring, clean-up, sanitation and enforcement would be far greater than they expect and could be put to better use in creating more affordable housing.

This is a bandaid on a deep rooted problem, efforts to help house homeless people should be improved, displacing the homeless in parks is not an adequate solution and will lead to greater problems.

Please vote NO on this poorly-planned bill. If this passes I will not vote for any members of the council regardless of which office they may be seeking in the future. Thank you.

I have no comments, the fact that I whole heartedly signed this petition says it all.

Homeless encampments in City Parks, greenbelts, & right-of-ways, and on City sidewalks pose safety risks not just for the campers but for all Seattle Citizens who use those areas. It is false to claim or believe that allowing these encampments is any sort of improvement for the homeless. Do not allow this travesty to occur. Dig deep for real solutions. Keep our parks and public spaces clean, safe, and usable for all.

Let's work on other solutions to the homelessness problem.

VOTE NO on this proposal to open up camping in Seattle public parks, sidewalks, parking strips, and other publicly owned spaces. Defer all Council action on this proposal for a minimum of 6 months, and require a full environmental impact study before any further proposals are considered.

Very bad idea. Find better way to house homeless. Tents not adequate. Save our parks, greenelts and play fields. Learn from Portland and read Seattle Times editorial on this bill.

No camping on sidewalks and in our parks. Our neighbors to the south tried this same thing and it failed big time!!!
