Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

This is not a solution for homelessness.

I will watch this vote and commit myself and my monetary donations to vote out *ANY* city council member who votes for this measure.

Seattle parks and streets are not campgrounds. We need to keep these areas safe and clean for all to use. Other solutions for the situation need to be found that don't encourage Seattle to be a destination for the homeless.

Carkeek Park borders Viewlands Elementary. We have already experienced heavy homeless encampments and the trash, delinquent behavior that takes place and is not managed effectively by the park or the police. Please do not proceed w. this plan.

We need to find a better answer. Taking parks away from kids and families is NOT the answer.

I have a young child and there are already several parks in Seattle we can not go to together because of unsanitary and dangerous conditions caused by encampments. Public parks belong to all the public; they are not for one portion of the population to monopolize and make unsafe for others. Homelessness is a real problem deserving our compassion and concern, and the Seattle City Council needs to develop a real and comprehensive plan, instead of deferring to a simple (but completely flawed) solution of letting people camp in parks. Camping in public parks ruins these precious, shared spaces, does nothing to address homelessness, and is already a huge problem in Seattle.

Parks are a natural space set aside for human enjoyment and recreation or for the protection of wildlife or natural habitats.

Council bill is a misguided proposal for which the potential harm vastly outweighs the potential good. Please stop this from moving forward.

Please think of other options for homeless.

There are reasons the current laws are in place. Please do not let this Bill go forward.

we have rules for legalized pot but none for heroin. how about 1k foot rule.

I have empathy for these people. They should be afforded places to rehab and become productive members of society. But this should not be to the detriment of others, especially in a public place like a park where children play.

Don't defer just vote no on parks and green spaces.

This bandaid simply causes more problems.

Please do not allow homeless people to ruin our city parks.

The Council proposal helps no one. It disperses the problem to the parks and neighborhoods, where we have no resources to deal with it. To say there is no cost for the Council solution is patently false. We watched the clean up for just one place - the area in Ballard near the post-office - it took 19 people in hazmat suits , a back-hoe, 3 dump trucks and 5 days to clean up the needles, human feces, trash for a cost of $350,000. There are more than a hundred places. Perhaps hundreds that will need cleaning under the proposal. Homeless people would be better helped in centralize in one area, in tiny homes with the portable showers/toilets like the one Paul Allen provided and where out-reach Services (mental health, jobs, primary care etc) in portable trailers are all in one place. For the $50million spent so far - we could have had a solution.

I would like to know why an environmental impact statement was not necessary in this case..... I suppose that used hypodermic needles and human waste will not have a negative impact on the environment.

Camping in city parks and green belts is a terrriblebidea for everyone.

Yes, we need to provide help and shelter for the homeless, but in our parks is not the right solution.
