Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

I am so against homeless being in our parks.

Let's stop this madness!

The bill is ridiculous!

please focus on real alternatives like housing.

The resulting litter problem alone is insane.

Real solution for homelessness is needed. This is clearly not one.

We need a better solution. Public parks are for public use by all, especially taxpayers.

Allowing camping in any of the city parks is just wrong. I listened to an online meeting of the council members drafting this bill. They said under the viaduct is unsafe now but could become not unsafe if it was cleaned up. So the solution is to take a not unsafe area like a park. How long before those not unsafe areas become unsafe? Non homeless people are pretty good about putting trash in garbage cans, defecating in the restrooms and not drinking alcohol in the park. What is planned to ensure homeless people will abide by those same rules if they camp in the parks? Or sidewalks???? This bill is crazy.

This is an insane proposal.

I have experienced both personal homelessness and volunteering and working with outreach organizations to help out my fellow homeless to find services to stop the loop of hopelessness present in Seattle. I support this petition, as while I respect those who want to help, this is a very ill-thought through measure on several levels. The City Council these days seems to be in reactive mode on a lot of issues, and rushing forward on Council Bill 118794l won't get us closer to necessary solutions.

I do not think this plan will provide a benefit to the homeless, and will result in maintenance costs for our parks. I also think it will detract from the benefits we get from our parks. They should be places for connection with nature, a refuge for birds and wildlife and people, a place for exercise and meditation, and rejuvenation..

Please reconsider this plan. As a citizen who lives next to Beer Sheva Park, a city part that see's plenty of activity after hours, I can only imagine how this proposal, if enacted, can get out of hand. Think SAFETY and maintenance and sanitation. There has got to be other althernatives.

Please act for the best interests of ALL Seattle residents and not just a distinct minority. Real solutions are needed, this is not one.

Don't let the ACLU and Columbia Legal Services dictate and decide government policies. The council must represent the taxpayers, who are paying enormous taxes to deal with such issues.

After witnessing to many incidents of sidewalk deficating, urinating, drugging and drinking and then finding a person "camping" in my backyard my perspective has radically changed. The enabling has to stop,

There is NO SUITABLE solution where vagrants live outside, PERIOD.

This needs to stop

It's a park, where people go relax and workout. It's not a homeless shelter.

While compassionate and sincerely motivated, this is NOT the long-term solution for our beautiful and relatively safe city!
