Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

Homelessness is a moral failing of our society. We need to solve it...but not with camping in city parks, which is neither safe nor dignified.

please prevent squatters from taking over the whole city. we pay taxes for certain revenue to help these folks. thank you!

We need a better solution than enabling our parks to turn into homeless camps. Parks are for everyone to enjoy.

Seattle parks and PLAYGROUNDS have already become more dangerous with homeless people lying around all over, and so have the streets. As a mother, many times I find myself having to cross over and walk on the other side with my child because of homeless fights and garbage they leave all over even fecal material in the streets around Capitol HIll and in the parks. I often have to call 911 when at the some playgrounds in Seattle because there are people sleeping where children play during the day or talking loud with inappropriate language,I even found feces on some occasions or smelt it in the bushes by the playgrounds. Allowing homeless people camping in the parks and streets will make Seattle a very UNSAFE place to live and for children to play! I agree that homeless people should have housing and rehab facilities and access to education in their facilities and mental health support in their housing or rehab facility.

I go to the parks in Seattle every week w my toddler. There are homeless and it's scary. Garbage, needles, etc. no thanks!

I do not support this Bill. We need other solutions to solve homelessness. Not just give up and say ok, let anyone camp anywhere they want. Doing so will destroy our city, make parks unsafe and the sidewalks scary places to be. Parks should be for familys and kids, not a dumping ground for the homeless, garbage, etc.

Our city parks are a treasure. Please do not ruin them. Let's find a better solution.

Homeless people need help, but this bill is a bad idea, look no further than Portland to see the failure in sight.

We need leadership, not more excuses and short term fixes.

Our kids needs safe places to play and exercise. Without having to worry about What kind of activity they come across when at the park.like people doing drugs or littering , which is the very thing we teach our kids not to do.

I am concerned about the number of homeless on the streets and tents popping up all over town. There is even an encampment on Denny Way across from the Pacific Science Center. Several shirtless men have been outside in the rain smoking dope and making comments to passers by. Enough is enough! Get them out of there!!

This is a great example of well meaning idea turning into a public health and safety nightmare.

This idea of providing camping space to these people is idiotic. This is a portion of "KT's" West Seattle blog statement that is right to the point. "When will the City Council stop looking at these “homeless” as people harmed by a horrible economy or personal financial hardship and realize the vast majority are vagrants, drunks, and drug addicts, who are not looking for a solution to their problems, don’t care about the community around them, and consistently refuse offers of help and services. We wring our hands over them but they don’t care about themselves. If you were a poor down on their luck soul and forced to live in a tent, would you create a toxic waste dump all around you wherever you go? We’ve all seen the media interviews of a some of these people with their whining about not liking regulations, not being able to coexist with other people, etc… Come on. Now we’re going to create a new protected class of people in the city who are required to meet no standards of behavior and held harmless for their actions because they are “homeless”." The city needs to come together to find a real, permanent solution to give our homeless citizens a hand up. Council Bill 118794 is an abdication of leadership that hurts, rather than enhances, our city.

Stop the enabling of the homeless. It is not compassion to allow someone to be a homeless, drug addicted, drain on society. It's the laziest thing to do just to say it's their right to live in unsafe, unsanitary places where ever they want to instead of getting them help. Screw Ed Murray and the horse he rode in on

Do not allow park spaces to be occupied by homeless. These spaces so necessary for the same growth of our cities children cant be utilized by homeless...for basic health and safety reasons.
