Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

The public spaces belong to all of us! Any city council initiative that doesn't address mental illness and substance abuse (the true root causes of most homeless) is only treating the symptoms. Our civic leaders are seriously in need of some adult supervision. They simply don't get it.

This is one of the most mismanaged city wide matters have ever witnessed living in a US city.

Compassion does not come at the expense of others. And this proposal masquerades as a compassionate gesture. As a regular church-goer and contributor to those less fortunate, I do NOT support this homeless measure. It does nothing to address the causes of homelessness and inflicts damage and degradation on all of Seattle's citizens. The proposal is misguided and promoted by special interests, Please vote against this.

Keep parks reserved for children!

Please please please do not let this bill pass. Our homeless population definitely needs help, but this is not an effective way to help them.

Quit playing with the citizens of this city by experimenting with their money to subsidize your idealistic tendencies. You do not show good faith with the issues of homelessness and instead, sit in your chambers and (seemingly) summarily make decisions. I've lived above the Jungle my whole life and have experienced first hand how tent residents' garbage, drugs, needles, panhandling, drunkenness, etc have spread well beyond these locations. Your proposal to now sponsor this Andromeda Strain explosion to impact nearly every single community is outrageous ! I can go on and on to describe the residual impact to Beacon Hill but I'll save this for an oral opportunity before the Council.

I live near a much loved and used park. Seward Park. I agree with Tim Burgess.

NO! Our parks are for all of the public, as well as the homeless. But the parks should not be campsites for anyone. Thank you for your consideration.

The city needs to find a better answer. Moving the homeless into parks is NOT a solution!!

Please do not enact this law. Camping in public areas is not a good thing.

the park's are intended for everyone to use and enjoy.based on the homeless camper fire's along 21st in interbay and pile's of garbage along leary way from the make shift camp sites. this isn't a solution to our homeless problem .

I absolutely oppose the use of our public spaces for the homeless that refuse the myriad of other services and facilities. It's egregious that we continue to bleed money on this issue. Can't we learn from the failure of a very similar program in Portland!? The time for logic and common sense is now!

While something needs to be done to assist the homeless that doesn't mean all citizens should suffer. There are two classes of homeless, those who are homeless because of a failure in our system and those who are USING the system to get benefits. It is a waste of resources to help the second group but should they choose the resources should be available.

Putting homeless in parks, etc., is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of. Not safe for citizens, children or homeless. Let's not make it legal and recommend putting homeless in tents out in the damp and the rain.
