Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

Well intended but we need to have public spaces that are safe for all of our neighbors.

The condition Seattle has fallen into is truly sad. It's not the city I grew up in by any means. I'm 27 and moved out earlier this year, driven by a multitude of reasons which are compounded by the complete incompetence of the last couple mayors and the city council.

This will be a public health issue. Most parks do not have bathrooms, so campers will be forced to go wherever they can. Biohazard companies are already refusing to clean up the Jungle, what will happen to the human waste in our parks? Either include funding for more bathrooms, or actually use funding to create permanent housing for people, not just additional places for them to set up temporary shelter.

This is crazy!

Portland, Or. just finished a 6 month trial of this "open camping legislation." It was a disaster. There are now 2 tents on Green lake, one on the water with no bathroom facilities anywhere close. On the bike path from Freemont towards Discovery, the area was cleaned a month ago. Now, because of the proposals by the city council, there are now 7 tents and two "garbage tarp camps" on the cleaned up area. The smell of urine is pretty strong as you pass by.

No on encampments in Seattle parks!!!

Stop turning our green space into homeless encampments

Public parks are NOT the place to relocate or allow the homeless to reside. It is dangerous, unsanitary as well as not what we tax payers intended our money for parks to go towards. Please, for families' sakes, do not allow this!!

We need real help for homeless people, not a ridiculous rule change that will make our parks into public health hazards. The woods in my neighborhood already have plenty of used syringes and garbage in them. Please don't make our parks like this.

I wonder how many of the people who are so upset about this Council Bill voted for these clowns???

This isn't the solution

Portland is repealing their version of this after it clearly failed. Let's not make the same mistake

Seattle Parks must be safe for all children. Tents are not suitable for winter weather for homeless. This issue need a study and vote by the citizens.

Please we don't want homeless camping in the park where our children are playing.

Council Bill 118794 is not a solution to remedy unsafe conditions and protect the rights of homeless individuals. It will introduce far more problems than it solves and distract from the real work at hand. Creating a right to camp in the city is an insult to tax paying residents and voters here. These are public properties that citizens pay for to use for recreation and to enhance our communities. This idea is detrimental in so many ways, safety, health and sanitation, an increase in the homeless population, etc., that I can’t see how it can be defended.

Where are our civil rights to use the parks we pay for without having to worry about needles, human waste and garbage? Ridiculous plan!!!

Please do not turn our city in to a dump! I have great compassion for these people and support YouthCare, FareStart and the Union Gospel mission. We all saw what the "clean up" of the jungle looked like. For that to be the fate of our city parks is madness. Please do not do this to the City's tax-paying citizens and their children.
