Portland tried this and it was an utter disaster. They created more problems and now have rescinded the plan. Couldn't we learn something from them and use our tax dollars to help the homeless in another way?

Seattle City Council is completely incompetent and more concerned about a few hundred freeloaders than the people that pay their salaries. Who do they think they represent? We seriously need regime change in Seattle. #votethemout

NO from a concerned parent and citizen, this can NOT be allowed to happen.

I sent an email today to the mayor and city council addressing this exact issue.

Why are we as tax payers being asked year after year to pay for our parks when others are now allowed to use them for free? The city council needs to be reigned in. They forget who their larger constituency is.

Let's get more creative and more pragmatic in our approach to the problem of homelessness. Let's find examples of strategies that are working. An example of an approach that works is providing housing for people without homes. Thank you.

The City is being reckless with this legislation. The citizens of the city that pay taxes do not want homeless encampments in our parks!

Why not a housing first initiative instead?

I hope City can take more progressive action than just to move then out of one park to another like chasing gophers or rats.

This is just asking for trouble. It's no solution.

This "solution" doesn't even help people who are homeless- it is not right for anyone involved.

This proposal is criminal. It will not help the homeless, and it will destroy our parks for the entire community. How are our kids supposed to grow up healthy toward a better life without homelessness if we take away their spaces to get exercise, which is known to improve mental health.

If this is passed by our city council, I will devote as much time and energy as I can to see that no current city council person voting for this ordinance is re elected to the city council.

I'm completely against this legislation, I already have to explain needles and addiction with my son as we enjoy 'urban hikes' around our city as it is. Please start caring as much about our 'homed' citizens as you do about the homeless. The problem we have is drug addiction, most of the homeless are obviously addicts, so start working on getting A LOT more treatment centers up and running or this will only get worse.

Homeless encampments need to be disallowed on Seattle's city owned properties. This city needs protect the property payed for and maintained by taxpayers. Each property must be kept safe and clean for its originally INTENDED use.

This is not a solution.

I am raising small children in Seattle. Their school is close to I-5 and we already see the impact from the homeless camped under the freeway. I can not let my kids walk home from school on their own at an age when they should reasonably be doing so. There are already needles in our parks (and school playground!). All residents should have reasonably safe and clean parks, ball fields, and green spaces to explore and enjoy. This would devastate our parks and compromise public health and safety, without doing a single thing for the homeless population.
