Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

I will MOVE my family from the city limits if this passes. end of story!

I support this petition only after careful consideration. I respect that the Council is voting on this proposal as a response to mismanaged and inhumane sweeps of encampments. My main opposition to Bill 118794 is ecological; I'm a Forest Steward at a greenbelt in West Seattle and have seen the negative impacts of camping in our green spaces. Let's move forward FAST with the City's new "housing first" emphasis; sanctioning camping in our greenspaces does not solve anything and just leads to disarray, littering, and the destruction of acres of plants, many of which have just been planted by volunteers at the cost of many thousands of taxpayers' dollars. I currently have an encampment in my greenspace which I, the neighbors, and the police are temporarily tolerating. I can promise that we won't tolerate ten encampments, or a hundred. I say this as someone who generously supports the Downtown Emergency Services Center and who has several friends on the edge of homelessness. Camping in parks and green spaces is not a solution.

Keep them out of our parks and family areas. Rather than spending $57,000,000.00 on homelessness spend on rehab and transitional housing. And make it available to these people or buy tickets back home to where they came from

City parks, sidewalks and neighborhoods are not camp grounds.

Do not allow Council Bill 118794 to be passed.

Do not give free reign over our public spaces to the mentally-ill and the drug-addled for any purpose- let alone for habitation. For our children's and our environment's sakes we must prevent empowerment of the homeless to take over our green spaces; everyone knows the conditions are out of control as it is. One need only look around and see the garbage accumulation- not to mention needles and goodness knows what other hazards.

Please find a better option--real buildings: housing first. do not destroy the park system, one of the few things that's actually working well.

I blame the stranger in the same way I blame Fox News for creating the support to nominate the most inappropriate person to run for president this country has ever seen and the stranger for giving us the most inept and inappropriate city council this city has ever seen. Thank you Tim Burgess for the lone voice of reason.

Right issue. Wrong solution.

Kids and elders need a safe place to go to unwind. Don't ruin this. You are wrecking the only reserved place! We pay taxes for the parks in our sales tax. You are effectively using it for your own use! That's illegal! You are creating an unsafe and crazy place for all sorts of hobos! Tell Pirtland to stop shipping their people to us!!!!! Stand up to Lske Oswego! Stand up to Ashland! They all send their homeless here! Don't you get it? Oh, just roll over and take it. Look, I came from San Francisco. I know all about this. You are being hoodwinked!!!!!!! Wake up Seattle!!!!!! You are going to lose the cruise ships to Vancouver!!!! Stupid!!!

This is a "FAIL" proposal because it puts the public safety & environment at risk. It doesn't solve the homeless Challange to get them housing & access to services they need. Bad, bad, bad idea!

We think this proposal is a violation of citizen rights, and safety---especially children. This is not an appropriate proposal for the problems of these people. We are opposed to any vote which allows the city council to make a decision which will be very destructive to this city. Safety, hygiene, maintenance will be compromised for all citizens of Seattle. City parks are for the pleasure and relief of citizens---not a place to inhabit. Sidewalks provide egress to grocery stores, businesses, churches--everything people do in the quotidian of their lives.. Please use common sense and step back and closely review the plea of families, singles. and elderly tax payers.
