This is a gross misuse of taxpayer dollars and public space. This is not the intended use of the asset and will only exacerbate the problem it is intending to solve.

This a terrible, LAZY solution to a serious problem that is being pushed off to the side- or more accurately to our parks and public areas that taxpayers are supposed to enjoy. How about asking the very ineffective Mayor to stop building bike lanes and rainbow tinted crosswalks and put the money into refurbishing apartments along Aurora for example- making them rehab centers so that people who choose to get help- at least 50% of homeless have drug issues - don't have to wait 3 weeks for an open bed!

Build housing.... not free camping. We all use the parks, etc and they need to be safe and clean for children and all of us. I don't like to have to keep my grandchildren from running in parks because of these encampments which I am starting to have to do at Greenlake

This bill does not address homelessness and will result in the devastation of parks, green spaces, and other public space.

The proposal to allow free camping in our parks, sidewalks, and other public spaces is NOT a viable solution.
It is extremely short-sighted to set up a system whereby the city penalizes itself to pay a homeless person $250 for not providing what they need. We can't even provide a good basic education for children, and fines are accumulating daily for not following through with that mandate, and now we will be paying homeless people penalty money?!!! While I realize that these are separate state and city issues, the bottom line is that penalties don't motivate our government to do the right thing. This whole idea is LUDICROUS!

I agree fully with this petition. It is an egregious slap in the face of citizens who voted for a large amount of money to be spent on park improvements that now will be overrun by massive encampments that city government will NOT be able to monitor, much less control.

Please do more to stop our parks from becoming a camp ground for people who need more help than just a place to sleep. It'll jeopardize the health and safety of all of us.

This is not what parks are for. Pick one park and set it up formally and with security, toilets, etc. as proposed this legislation enables the unwitting taking of public open space access.

The Roman Emperor Caligula once waged war on Poseidon. He had his army march to the beach and start stabbing the water.
That was a better use of time, resources, and was more practical than this Ordinance.
The City Council needs to listen to their constituents and all of the experts. They are being arrogant and naive.

I support deferring the vote on CB 118794 for at least 6 months. There is too much at stake here, and much of it is unclear. Seattle's parks are not places for campers. We need to set up designated camping areas, and not allow our parks to become campgrounds. Thank you.

This solution helps no one. It does not help the homeless with housing and services. It angers your tax base. What will happen the next time the city seeks support/funding for real solutions?

I understand that council is trying to bring a solution for the homeless but this is NOT the solution to this issue.
