As a Seattle resident with young children and a home 2 houses away from a city park, I oppose this legislation for purposes of public safety and abiding by longstanding land use provisions restricting residents from camping in public parks. This is not a sustainable solution to the homeless problem we face in our city.

Please consider a systemic solution to end homelessness. This proposal does not uphold our standards of responsibility to every vulnerable group involved - both to the un-housed individuals themselves and to our children who are already exposed to hazardous waste (human feces and hypodermic needles in the case of my own neighborhood) due to the current state of inaction. I support Tim Burgess's call for a compassionate and cohesive solution.

They don't need another study. They just have to look at what has happened in Portland.

Of all the places in Seattle, find one for these encampments that is not in our parks or so near our children.

This is too important, for both the homeless as well as those living and enjoying this city's public areas, to be decided without full consideration of all possibilites

I am strongly opposed to this proposed legislation, which would be a disaster for our city.

The preferred alternative to deferring this legislation would be to simply vote NO on it. It is completely irresponsible and will allow camping and parking of those RVs in front of council members residences as well as ours!
I propose a kickstarter campaign to fund camping in front of the council member's homes if they should pass this legislation.
This is a public safety issue, and the city will face massive liability for providing unsafe spaces for our children and citizens.

I absolutely oppose a measure that would allow camping in city parks, on sidewalks, and in other public spaces. We pay taxes to develop and maintain these facilities and don't want them taken over by urban campers. It destroys the very nature of our open spaces; we have a right to use them with our kids without finding people abusing the space, leaving needles and garbage everywhere.

This is a hasty solution to a massive city problem. Let's take some time and rethink this one. Seattle already has a national reputation for allowing this homeless situation get out of control. We need to do our due diligence and make sure we get this one right. Seattle needs to be known as the city that solved the problem rather than the one that let it steamroll them. Not safe, not practical, and it's already been a failure.
No!

This is an irresponsible action that does nothing to create a real solution. Time to look at communities that are effectively doing a good job of assisting their homeless population. It's certainly not Portland!

I always try to step back and look for the LOGIC of government action (even if I don't agree with it), but unfortunately, this particular idea is just insane. I'm very concerned about future City Council action as well, because clearly they are no longer representing the majority of the people that elected them.

Allowing people to legally camp in public parks is absurd! This would ruin the parks and experience for the majority of residents. Seattle would be significantly diminishing its city by going voting yes on this legislation.
