Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

This can't happen to our parks and public areas.

I cannot support legislation that would allow homeless people to camp wherever they want. It's not fair or safe to our other citizens and children.

I am a parent of 2 young children and live in Capitol Hill. We love to walk to the parks in our neighborhood. I am a family physician working in a community health center also in Seattle, and take care of many homeless patients. This is NOT the solution that helps homeless people, and it is dangerous for me and my family. Let's look at more effective and safer solutions. This is short-sighted and dangerous.

If you pass this, here are just some of the measures you'd also need to pass: 1) more police or security specifically to patrol each park. 2) a rule similar to the marijuana law that stipulates no homeless at parks within a block of schools. 3) extra cleanup crews to get rid of trash and any needles or drugs. 4) a clear channel for parents and neighbors near such parks to address their concerns with the city council. It's not that we're unsympathetic to the plight of homelessness. But taking over the parks we bring our children to is not acceptable.

This is not a solution to homelessness which will require an integrated strategy and commitment to affordable housing and services for people who need them and not loopholes to developers under the guise of HALA.

This is not a solution to our homelessness problem! This will destroy natural areas and discourage people from using them and STILL doesn't do anything to actually help homeless people get out of homelessness, nor is it even a reasonable stopgap until a real solution is found. Why can't we be like Utah and simply give them homes? An extremely conservative state run by a cult is doing a better job than our allegedly progressive city! Give them homes, don't destroy natural areas that are a refuge for the people of this city!

Our city looks like a garbage dump in areas. Let's get it cleaned up!

Please think about the safety of children. There must be another answer.

Absolutely ridiculous proposal. What about all the young families and their children who would have to put up with beer cans and syringes littered everywhere? Not to mention the repugnant smell of piss looming In ththe air? I am all for showing compassion and helping those in need, but this isn't the way to do it . At some point the Seattle City Council will have to start living in the real world and provide real world solutions.

city parks are meant for people to play in and visit. Not for homeless to camp in. They will ruin our parks with the garbage they leave and the drug dealing will make them unsafe!

We need a different plan on what to do with the homeless..opening up our parks is a horrible idea!!

Come on mayor. Stop imposing your idealism on us poor tax paying voters.

This does not solve the homeless problem and is wrong. These people need to be enabled with drug treatment programs and long term solutions. Not enabled and encouraged to live homeless. In addition this is not safe for our children. Children should be able to play at a park w/o drug addicts. This will destroy our parks and only makes the problem worse.

This insanity must be stopped!

As a long time Seattle resident, my patience is way beyond strained at our Homelessness situation. You're starting to turning me into a Republican.

The ACLU are the same folks who brought us de institutionalization back in the 80s. We see how irreversible that wrong headed action has been.

Please reconsider. The homeless need help not camping.
