Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

I understand the city council is considering allowing homeless encampments in our parks, sidewalks and greenbelts. Though I do feel we are failing a swath of the mentally ill among us I do not understand the logic of turning over some of our societies greatest assets, our parks and green spaces, to encampments occupied by those individuals who in many cases have made a conscious decision to not contribute to society as a whole while at the same time substantially decreasing our own access and benefit derived from those same spaces. Furthermore the negative impact upon adjacent neighborhoods (talk to SPD about the benefits of neighborhoods where neighbors know and care for other neighbors), the filth and lawlessness exhibited by past and existing camps aside from the monetary loss of value is entirely imprudent and without redemption.
This ordinance is the opposite of a solution to the homeless problem. I believe it will exacerbate the homeless problem by attracting more homeless people to the Seattle area, at the same time, it will make Seattle unattractive for taxpayers and businesses. Please don’t pass this ordinance! There has to be a better solution.

The City Council needs to listen and respect residents and public opinion on this issue. The proposed Council Bill is absurd and will do nothing to improve the lot of the homeless and will create filthy, crime infested tent cities in Seattle Parks that taxpayers and the general public have a right to use safely and without the encroachment of tent camps and garbage.

Allowing camping in Seattle Parks will simply take the dandelion that was the under-I-5 "Jungle" and spread its seeds throughout the city. We live directly across from a park and have seen nighttime park use directly correlate with drug use, violence and subsequent police calls. This is an utterly insane plan.

This is not a tenable solution for anyone. Park space is reserved for day-use by everyone, not overnight camping. We need a real homeless, not a re purposing of reserved public land.

Living next to the Locks, this is not a good option for the city or this vulnerable population.

This is not a solution to homelessness--it will compound the problem.

This proposal does nothing to help homeless who need real housing, jobs, mental health and substance abuse support. Using city parks for tents is not the answer.

Failed in Portland. Will fail in Seattle. Two thirds of chronically homeless don't use the available services. Until we get them to use them they will roam the parks with a heavy impact, moving on every 30 days if you enforce the regs and negatively impact a new park.

Since this approached has failed in other cities, it definitely won't succeed in Seattle. Let's use some of the other better options on the table, being mindful winter is coming!

This legislation will not solve the problem, but serve to encourage homeless encampments .
The council needs to get their house in order. There is already 59 million dollars in the city budget for homeless problems. Why aren't we already seeing low cost shelters being built? There should be a public accounting of where and how our tax dollars are being spent. This is very poor governing and not the solution for the greater good of the people of Seattle.
