Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

To the City Council- this bill is reactive and short sighted. The homelessness concern would be more effectively addressed by increased availability of and improved access to treatments for mental illness, drug and alcohol abuse and, at least for the immediate need, an increase in the number of shelter beds. Providing these services would be a much more effective use of our tax dollars rather than these monies paid as a "fine" to the individuals who are the very individuals for whom these services are needed.

Please do not officially permit camping in our city's parks via CB 118794. Parks are a place for kids and families and we need to feel safe. It would be nearly impossible to ensure safety in the miles upon miles of trails within Discovery Park (and other parks) to additionally include controlling and cleaning litter, human waste, drug and alcohol hazards such as syringes and broken glass all of which are not only detrimental to our children but wildlife and the environment. Thank you, Amy Novak OFarrell

No this is so dangerous. Our children play in these parks. Daycare and Preschools use these parks for the kids to play.

No, please do not do this.

Parks are not for homes - they are places where people can go to be close to nature and enjoy the natural world. You can't have groups of people living with no toileting facilities/garbage collection.

I am a Seattleite and am completely in satisfied with this option. Our taxes payed for this outcome, complete incompetency by our leadership.

I use our parks for relaxing with my kids. How is that possible with people living there?

This is not the right way to handle the homeless. But it is definitely the right way for members of the Seattle City Council to not be re-elected.

This is an unrealistic expectation for property owners and will turn Seattle into a place where families are not welcome:

I am against allowing encampments in our parks. It is not appropriate.

I do not feel that this decision is a fair one to the people of the City of Seattle, nor does it do anything to address the plight of homelessness in King County, instead making green spaces unsafe.

This is bad for homeless, bad for kids, the community & Seattle as a whole. Bad for business and bad for property values. Homeless problem should be addressed with real solutions such as housing and services/help.

Terrible idea to allow camping in our parks.

Money needs to be allocated to truly help the homeless instead of this

Please do NOT open our parks and green spaces and ball fields to homeless camps. In 2014, Seattle voters passed a Seattle Park District to keep our parks safe, clean and usable. If the City Council passes Council Bill 118794 that will negate what the citizens of this city hoped for when they voted in a sustainable funding source for our parks. This in NOT the way to solve our homelessness problem.

I love our cities parks. They are what I love most about Seattle. Allowing camping in the parks will make me feel unsafe in places that would otherwise be my respite in the city.

This is not the solution to the problem of homelessness. This will only serve to take away our green spaces and parks from families.
