Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

The residents of Seattle passed a Special Levy to spruce up their parks. We did not do that to have them turned into homeless encampments. These encampments will spread filth and disease in the form of drug needles, garbage and human feces and urine. This is a violation of our Public Trust.
The homeless should be moved to an area, as Vancouver has done. They can camp there or keep their RV's there. They should have medical and food services; wash stations, port-potties and garbage collection. This is a humane solution.
If the Mayor and City members of the City Council cannot isolate the homeless so that the rest of the city can use the parks and streets which they pay for through their taxes, the Mayor and the Council, with the exception of Mr. Burgess, should be recalled.

This is insanity. Homeless camping in our parks!!! Get folks the housing and the mental health and drug/alcohol help they need! DO YOUR JOBS and find solutions to the root causes of these issues...stop dumping, start fixing!

Unbelievable that they are actually considering this! All parks would become incredibly unsafe!

As a citizen who lives within walking distance of 2 city parks with unimproved spaces and who works in an industrial area I strongly oppose the Council Bill 118794. I work along 15th Ave between the Galer and Garfield street overpasses where homeless encampments and RVs are already an ongoing problem. If this ordinance is passed, it is sure to get much worse.

Do not turn over our city parks to squatters. Seattle's rapidly increasing population needs clean, safe open spaces. This proposal will destroy our parks.

I have compassion for homelessness, but you can't address the problem by opening up the city to campers. The city counsel simply doesn't want to make hard decisions so once again, kicks the cans.

While some of the language in this petition is not what I would choose, I do oppose putting homeless people in parks.
We just passed the largest housing levy in Seattle History, where did that money go?
Why aren't we building homes for these people with that money, not putting them on the streets and in our parks.
And this policy will likely affect my vote during the next election.

This proposal does nothing to help people exit homelessness. Tents are not the answer. Please focus your time and our tax dollars on Pathways Home.

No camping in public parks! And this means everyone. Our hard earned tax payer dollars pay for these parks so our children and famlies can enjoy them. Homeless encampments will deter people from parks and drive them to the suburbs! Not the right solution. Please vote no!

Our public spaces must be managed for all citizens. Public camping should not be allowed except on government operated public recreational campgrounds.

This legislation would do nothing to solve homelessness, but it would create a myriad of new problems and would cause our City to be much less livable.

We go to Seward Park regularly.
Allowing homeless camping there is insane!
Didn't work for Portlandania - even they recognized this and rescinded the rule.

Our parks are for our children . I coach cross country for St john school and I'm even nervous at the current situation. I have to run 20 4th & 5th graders through the evening dusk at Woodland Park. I'm nervous with the homeless people hanging out in vans with the doors open legally at this point. I'm nervous when I send the kids down to the bathrooms. I have to make sure that there are not women are giving people blowjobs in the bathroom .
I pay my taxes I want those parks to be for our children.
I agree we have a homeless problem, mental illness problem, drug problem, but our parks are sanctuary for our families and children.
Other cities have figured out what to do with their homeless BUT mixing homeless and mentally ill people and drug addicts and children and Needles and human feces is not the solution .
Keep the parks homeless free!!!

Do not approve Council Bill 118794. This is a horrible idea and will eventually create conflicts (some potentially violent) between residential home owners and the homeless in parks. At some point homeowners will fight back to protect their homes, parks, families and safety.

No comment can express my disappointment in the people that are supposed to be caretakers of our city. I hope that they don't have kids that might fall onto a needle in one of our once beautiful parks.
