This is terrifying. Put this to a vote, City Council, and see what the MAJORITY wants, not what YOU want.

In total agreement with this petition. Suggest reading the Seattle Times editorial on similar legislation activity in Portland.

I already have to clean out used needles, broken bottles, and cans before my five year old plays in most parks. Having homeless camps in parks will invite trouble, drugs, violence, and trash into my child's life. I won't allow that to happen.

It's disappointing we have a city council who is seriously considering this approval. Please reconsider voting for council members who are in favor. Thank you Tim Burgess for stepping up.

This plan has already been tried in Portland just this year and failed miserably, leading to an increase in homelessness and encampments with as many as 500 tents taking over city protected greenbelt.

This is a very misguided non-solution. This will decrease the livability of our city for most people.

This is irresponsible use of tax payers money and does not address the problem of homelessness. It leaves the City liable and takes from us and our children one of the safe places to enjoy nature. More than half of the population of this state is in Seattle. Leave us our parks!

Here's an idea: levy a tax on property developers and use the funds to build some homeless housing.

Our parks are a resource accessible to our city's people all income levels for no entrance fee. We need to keep them clean and as safe as possible.
Taxpayers in the city recently funded a huge levy to expand and improve our parks.
Why would we endanger this resource so vital to our quality of life in Seattle?
This is an example of good intentions leading to terrible policy.

Please protect and keep what little the shrinking families of Seattle have left for activities and recreation. Parks are not campgrounds, and campgrounds are not parks.

Don't take the easy way out and enable the acts of mentally ill or needy few while endangering our environment and the safety tax paying law abiding majority. This proposal is inhumane to the real needs of the homeless. They need houses not camps. The bill would have immediate and long term impact on the environment, public safety of all and a drain on taxpayer money and our police, fire and social services depts. This would be a bad law if it goes into effect.

The City Council needs to find more rational approaches to deal with this problem. The bill has many negatives that harm the city.

Yes, the homeless need our help and compassion. This plan is just not the way to do it. We need to sit down at the table with many different constituents (not just the ACLU) and figure out a long-term, comprehensive plan.

As a parent of 3 small children, there is NO way I want our parks turned into homeless encampments. These people need homes, shelters, counseling. There are so many other resources that need to be utilized other than our parks.

This idea if camp anywhere- even with 'rules' - won't work. Tents are not the answer to homelessness. They aren't homes. - no heating, no running water, not hygienic, has no city services. And tents in parks makes sure the taxpayers don't get to use their parks!
