I vehemently oppose this legislation. This needs to be considered only after a fair amount of time and consideration by all people who will be potentially affected. A hastily construed city council meeting on a Friday at 930 am Downtown is not the definitive time and place to enact such a potentially transformative piece of legislation.
You must not let this pass! Sanity must win out, and our children and ability to enjoy Seattle safely must be first priority!!

They just can't be serious. They were not elected to destroy our city.

What about Pathways Home? What is the city council doing to effectively address homelessness vs. skirt the issue?

Right now we have a homeless man with apparent drug addiction and mental issues living on our parking easement. This has GOT TO STOP. We have two young girls and I don't even want them playing in our yard. Homeless DO NOT belong in parks.

This is not a solution. These people need housing and social services, not tents.

As President of the Carkeek Park Advisory Council, I am completely against homeless encampments in any park. Not only would encampments spread throughout our parks result in safety hazards for park goers and cause significant environmental impacts to the parks, most of our parks incorporate marginal and sensitive areas that are not suitable for camping. Plus such encampments are prone to dangers for the campers.

Please reconsider approving this misguided approach to aiding the homeless. Please spend money instead on addressing root causes - not on bandaid solutions that further endanger others and also make Seattle a destination for homeless people elsewhere..

This is a sure fire way to ruin the parks for everyone and they should be for everyone. Living there was not what they were designed for. This is outrageous. It's failing in Portland and it will fail here.

Bill 118794 will make the homeless situation much worse. As a Seattle resident and taxpayer, I am very opposed to this legislation. Our park system is what makes Seattle a nice place to live. It will no longer be the least bit nice if people are allowed to camp/live in OUR ( OUR - all the people of Seattle!) PARKS. You will be making our parks unsafe and ugly for everyone- and in addition will not helped the homeless situation at all . The city has very low occupancy rates in its' homeless shelters- in fact, the city funded study states that we have a generous and adequate supply of shelter beds- if only we would improve utilization. Homeless need to be sheltered in appropriate locations- not in the parks.

I'm not in support of Bill #118794. But I am in support of helping the homeless and solving the homeless challenge.
But this Bill is a step backwards, in many directions at once, which is quite a feat.
This is not a viable solution.
