I am adamantly against allowing homeless people to live in our parks and public spaces. We need to address this issue rather than create public spaces. It's a health and safety issue.

STOP this vote and the continued allowance of lawlessness in Seattle! Our city needs to address root cause of why these folks are in tents, many by the choices they made and continue to make by passing up help, so everyone else can enjoy their right to live in a safe, clean environment.

I agree that something needs to change but this is NOT the answer.

Please help the homeless by providing shelter for them. If you turn our city into a homeless camp the problems will multiply.

Think of the hundreds of park walkers who will no longer feel safe simply taking a stroll thru a green space.
Ask a single woman what is feels like to walk or jog the park with drug using (heroin) addicts. Does she feel safe?
Parents taking their kids to play at the park with needles and dozens of heroin users close-by. Feeling safe? You will have mothers outraged. Never raise the ire of a mother.
Think mounds of trash and feces in acres of Seattle parks. A public health problem for 1000's of Seattleites to be sure.
Brilliant to even ponder this inane idea. Just brilliant.
For every 1,000 citizens you drive away from the parks you invite 1 to use it as a home and heroin shooting-up area - a 1,000 to 1 ratio. Now there is local Seattle democracy at work in fine form !!

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of! I have two young children and to allow the homeless to camp in our parks is absurd. It's irresponsible and doesn't address the overall problem in the least! These people need to have some skin in the game. If you give them housing, it's likely the ones who chose this alternative lifestyle will trash the houses. When you work hard for something, you take care of it. Ownership is empowering. Let the Indian Reservations be a great lesson in how giving people free housing does not work!

After all the previous discussions and suggested plans, this seems to be a hasty "solution" so someone can say something was done.

The facts of this proposed ordinance are not clear. Will it, as Burgess claims, allow homeless to camp in parks and sidewalks? Or is it more about changes in the manner of enforcement? Or is Burgess just plain wrong. The public needs to know.

I have already had unsafe experiences interacting with homeless drug abusers at Cal Anderson and Roanoke Park with my 2.5 year old daughter in tow. This is not an acceptable nor safe means of dealing with an epidemic.
