Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

Let our parks be what they are meant to be, a safe, welcoming place for friends and families to come together and enjoy the outdoors. They were never meant to be home to anyone and shouldn't be (the closure hours clearly signify that, if nothing else does!)

This initiative is a stop gap that will not solve anything but cost us more in the long run. It's cheaper to house homeless people than to allow them to damage our parks.

We've done so much to create parks and open spaces for the city. Was it just to create unsanitary, unsavory campgrounds for the homeless? I think not!

Please don't take away our places of play, relaxation, family time by destroying all our parks and green spaces with homelessness and drugs. We pay taxes and this is not right.

I cannot believe that anyone would think this is a good idea.

I signed the petition earlier but am not sure the system accepted it. I am in Kshama Sawant's district.

This is insane. If the council votes this in will devote time and $ to replace them. Plus what is this nonsense about allowing unelected special interests to write laws? That is something that our corrupt Congress would do with the energy or chemical lobbies.

Please protect the parks and keep them nice clean and drug free. Help homeless people live somewhere else other than the parks, city parks are for animals and plants to live in and for people to visit.

This is a gutless proposal by City of Seattle officials. It won't fix a thing, just ruin our city parks. I'll work to defeat any city 'leader' behind this ridiculous proposal.

I live just a mile from Seward Park and a block from Graham Hill School, which has a large, park-like playground. Both are gathering places for families and children. Please do not allow these areas to be taken over by homeless encampments. Make a plan to utilize many of the undeveloped vacant building sites around Rainier. Do more tiny homes like the Othello Encampment, but don't despoil our parks.
