Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

I have compassion for the homeless and think we need to help those who want to be helped. However, I want to feel safe in public areas surrounding my home and in the areas I spend a lot of time. I OFTEN DO NOT FEEL SAFE -- on Broadway, in Cal Anderson, at the freeway on/off ramp triangles due to the homeless hanging around -- often high, often filthy (not availing themselves of places to clean up, defecating and urinating in public, throwing trash and drug paraphernalia around, etc.), to say nothing of the aesthetics of the filth they leave behind. I walk everywhere, often alone (I am nearly 60, female) to keep my carbon footprint low and for exercise, so this is a real issue for me.

No camping in our parks and open spaces!!!

I implore you to not allow unfettered camping to occur in city parks. These parks belong to all of us, and they will be taken over by drugs, crime, and garbage, including human feces.

I'm dismayed that the bill's authors and council members have unnecessarily chosen to pit needs of homeless folks against natural areas. Other better options are available..

My wife works downtown and has to walk from King Street station to her work 6 blocks away. It is getting much worse....really to the point where you have to question if it is safe and appropriate to walk through the area with homeless people doing whatever they want with no consequences. The city has completely lost it with the notion that homeless can do whatever they want, wherever they want. What about the rights of other citizens, businesses and how do we want our city to be seen by visitors. The Mayor and Council need to get a reality check. Enough!

We need to do something to help those in need, but this plan does not help and goes further to making this city inhospitable towards families

Using our parks as to house the homeless is irresponsible and rash. I do not support this proposal.

we pay enough taxes- certainly ww can find people to manage the homeless with all this money- too many interest groups where there is money

At this time, it appears that this action will contribute to the downward degradation of the quality of living in Seattle neighborhoods . I am not in favor of any ordinance that might open up public parks for camping for any length of time.

Please reject this bill. It will not solve the underlying problems, and it will restrict the ability of families and children to safely enjoy our public resources.

I want to protest in the most forceful way the proposed ordinance which is misdirected. Most of the problem arises from the insufficient mental health care system in our state.

Vote NO! This legislation is INSANE!

I visited one of the encampments near Green Lake last year and discovered that in actuality it was almost empty -- tents paid for by city taxes made to look like an encampment of people 10 times larger than were actually staying there, with some young activists who were not homeless staying there as a sort of "press conference" to elicit more funding. Lets not ruin our city for the sake of something that is being trumped up as a bigger than it actually is. If City Council votes any kind of camping as legal in our city, they are not representing the wishes and views of the voters and taxpayers of our city.

Time for some voices of reason, not just the loudest minority for no reason and no solutions. WE elect you.

This ordinance will make the homeless problem worse and will ruin Seattle...will drive business and tourism out of the city. Residents and their families have a right to use the parks without fear of being impacted by needles, hazardous human waste and the possibility of being a victim of crime.

Homelessness is a problem in the city, but this is not an appropriate solution. Find a better solution.

We do not beleive allowing camping in piblic parks is a long term solution to homelessness. Nor does it meet the mission for parks.
