Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

This is going to make the city unlivable for people that pay taxes and and want a healthy thriving city. As a woman, I'm constantly heckled and literally threatened by homeless people as I'm walking around or waiting for busses. I've had to stop using certain bus stops because of homeless encampments. Shouldn't the city of Seattle be protecting its residents like me? Allowing homeless people to camp in parks would basically make them unusable to me, and the parks are one of the things I love the most about this city. Please find an actual solution rather than putting bandaids on the problem.

Do not let the chaos of the jungle spread all over the city. We need housing for homeless, not a ruined city.

This is the worst idea ever. Check with Portland. They did the same thing and it failed. We need real solutions to homelessness not bandaids that will destroy our quality of life in the city. Listen to Tim Burgess! He is the only council member who is thinking!

This is one of the most ill-conceived proposals I have ever had the misfortune to see. It does nothing to solve the homelessness issue in our city. Instead it enables and encourages a population segment to live in an unhealthy and unsustainable manner on the backs of our taxpayers. You must find a better way.

I have many concerns about this proposal. While I understand the need to address our increasing homeless population, I believe we also need to protect our open spaces and make sure there are safe places for our children to play.

Making parks available as homeless shelters is not the solution people. Why don't the people that run this city do their jobs for once! All useless.

I feel strongly that the City Council should defer voting on 118794, until more research on impact can be completed.
I am extremely concerned about the impact this proposal would have on the safety and usability of parks in my community. Further, I feel that the fiscal resources required under this bill would be better used to provide services to individuals who are homeless.

Do not let this happen, it will make our parks unsafe for the people who pay the taxes that make the parks possible.

This idea is so ridiculous. I am so disappointed. The homeless need rules of conduct and this will just encourage more disrespect. This is a slap in the face to taxpayers.

All you commenters crack me up. Do you see what years of liberal and nearly socialistic values has earned the city of Seattle?! YOU all inadvertently made this happen!!! I still hold my Washington State, King County ID but I have been living in Washington DC for almost 3 years now, and even though they are a fairly liberal "town" as well, NOTHING like this would ever even think about crossing the desks of council members! This is such far left legislation that the council member were honestly thinking they were going to be loved and praised for doing so! I was just in Seattle for the first time in 3 years two weeks ago and I can honestly say that the problem of homelessness in the city has become 10x worse. Open air drug deals/markets, sidewalk camping, near violent arguments, my girlfriend, a lifetime big city Eastcoaster and world traveler was utterly shocked at what she witnessed as we walked the streets of Seattle. Disgusting. Thank your local liberal.

Provide wrap-around services instead. Look to other cities (like Portland) to partner with business to create semi- perma housing. Do not tie your own hands by making it impossible to evict.

No to creating shanty towns in our parks and greenbelts!!! This doesn't help anyone, most of all the homeless.

This is not the answer to our city's problems. Public spaces must be preserved for public use, not to be seized for private occupation. Implement the solutions recommended by the outside evaluation.

Absolutely not based on the failed Portland experiment.
