Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

Enough is enough. This is progressively getting worse and worse. This is not helping anyone as more and more people are moving into these areas and more and more I am unable to take my family into these spaces. Leaving this as is in no way is helping the homeless to get off the streets and back on their feet. This is not a solution. Do not allow this any longer. I also work in downtown seattle and for the past 4 years I have watched this situation get worse and worse almost daily. The situation is out of control.

I don't want homeless people in public spaces. honestly, I don't want homeless people in Seattle

I am a Seattle resident, tax payer, father, and youth soccer coach. My family uses Seattle Parks and green spaces on a daily basis. We have supported taxes and levies to maintain and improve the parks. While we recognize the plight of the homeless, CB 118794 does not provide a solution and represents an unfunded process that will likely destroy parks, prevent our children from using fields, and adversely impact the safety of the community. Permitting the homeless to take over our parks does not provide a healthy solution to anyone, particularly the homeless. It does not encourage public accountability on their part nor teach them the responsibilities of being a home owner or tenant, which are important to their ability to maintain a home. This bill, though well intended is ill conceived and irresponsible to both the homeless and the rest of the Seattle community.

This new policy WOULD NOT address the homeless issue in Seattle. The policy would not increase low barrier housing, substance abuse facilities, or mental health clinic access. This policy would ONLY allow police and policy makers to turn a blind eye to homeless HUMANS.

Per example of how the homeless live and create garbage everywhere they've live do we really want the parks to turn into another "Jungle"

Please stop the camping.

This is going TOO FAR! My property tax went up 33% in 2015. It's set to go up another 15% this coming year, and now you want to take away the parks that I'm paying for, where I take my 5-year old daughter to play? Because that is what will happen. There are already parts of parks we don't go to because of homeless people hanging out. What ever happened to boarding houses like where I lived in college, and where my father lived when he was young?

I remember my grandmother saying years ago, when they closed the asylums, literally all of those people went on the streets. We do NOT need tent cities, we need asylums to get these people help. Also, unfortunately, most of the homeless communities bring in bad drugs and alcohol. Do we want our children in those kinds of parks?

Opening up Parks in green space is not managing the situation . Let's work together as a community and community Council to manage the situation.

As a Seattle Firefighter and EMT first responder for nearly 25 years, I have witnessed the growth of the homeless population and the changes Seattle has gone through as a result. I realize that some of our homeless brothers and sisters need our support to get back on their feet and get a fresh start in life. However, having been cursed at, spit on, and physically assaulted, I also realize that some of our homeless brothers and sisters do not want our help, and only want to continue in their alcoholism and drug addiction paid for by panhandling. We need to realize that not everyone is the same, and that holds true for the homeless as well. Let's offer a hand to all of them, but let's be sure that what we offer is tailored to their differing needs, thereby giving each of them the best chance there is.

Please think of the children, families who use our parks.

The Pacific Northwest is a haven for the homeless all along the West coast. Get it together and figure this out!

So much change in the last 10 years. Sad.

Please keep the homeless from camping in our parks. I vote and will be watching how my representative regarding her actions.

No encampments in City Parks

Allowing homeless to camp in parks is NOT a solution and endangers the citizens who use and pay for the parks with their tax dollars.

Destroying our parks is not a solution to homelessness.

City Council members stop this insanity of allowing the homeless population to destroy our city with filth and needles. Listen to the tax payers and protect what we work HARD for and pay taxes for!

Please pay head to this petition. Our park, Carkeek, is one example of a public space which no longer as safe as it once was for our children with homeless sleeping and camping out in it. It used to be such a comfortable place to allow our kids to play in and no longer feel that way.
