Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

This is not the solution to this problem. What about the rights of the residents of the City of Seattle to enjoy our green spaces. I believe this will not be possible if they are filled with the homeless. Instead our parks will be filled with garbage. The homeless need actual homes and the proper social network to help them with their various mental and physical problems.

the idea to let homeless camp on park property is a bad idea as they leave human waste as a thank you note

Please don't allow homeless to camp in green areas and sidewalks. Allowing that will represent a step back in safety and the healththy development of our city. Our city is a testament of hard work and compassion. We are all involved in organizations that help homeless, through our church, food bank, ywca, and many others. However we can't take advantage of the good will of hard working tax payers and make the city a unsafe and messy place to live in. Let's make sure that we provide the help that is needed to those who lost their jobs, homes or need mental health, but lets discourage those who all they want is to satisfy their drugs addiction and live in the street.

Please do everything you can to decrease the needs of those without homes or shelter. This just gives them more space but no home. And it leaves our city's green spaces and parks less available and usable in the manner for which they were intended. This would take our city to a darker place, from which there is no clear return!

These parks are poor substitute for housing homeless. Often no toilets, garbage collection or running water. These are not humane options. Seattle can do better and should.

They don't need to make the parks a homeless encampment they need to take abandoned houses fix them up to state standards and place homeless people in them. Many of the people that are homeless once served our country and yes many of them have a drug problem these days but that's also the governments fault for making many of the drugs back in the day! The park needs to be for families to enjoy nature and recreational activities I vote for no encampments

Let's use common sense. Do we want to drive everyone out of seattle expect the homeless?

Turning our public spaces into cheap homeless shelters is not the answer. The city needs to find a better solution.

We need to learn from the bill Portland passed and the subsequent issues that arose. Lets be smart and thoughtful about this

Please, do not let this happen to our parks. I use the parks (Carkeek) nearly everyday. I have stopped using Golden Gardens because of camping in the woods. I do not shop at the Safeway on 15th and 85th because of the campers in the pocket park accross from Safeway on 14th. I voted a huge tax increase for parks...I want to use them free of homeless campers.

It would be good to follow Salt Lake City's example with their permanent housing solution for homeless people. It sounds like a pretty amazing program and a much better use of our tax dollars.

As a fellow human I think it is important for all people to have shelter. As a social worker and mother, I do not believe that opening up our city parks to camping is the answer. While out on walks in my neighborhood with my children, I worry enough about thrir exposure to biohazards as we come across use condoms and used drug needles. I would to be able to continue to bring my children to enjoy our city parks without increased worried for their saftey. If you want to do something about homelessness you can encourage more shelter options that do not increase risk to vulnerable populations such as children.

This City Council vote is wrong as it doesn't directly help homeless people and it damages public parks and public places

Yes, being homeless is not a crime. But camping illegally is, litter is, drug use is, etc. Stop letting people camp illegally and stop the littering etc. Why do you think people are coming here and doing this type of behavior. Because the city government is letting it happen. This isn't rocket science.
