It is unbelievable to me that City Council is actually considering this proposal to legalize the occupation of our streets and public spaces by a very small subset of its citizens. This is not the way to fix the homelessness issue. City Council needs to redirect their efforts and city resources into legal shelters, mental health services and low income housing (which in parts means actually holding developers feet to the fire and not giving the real estate industry carte blanche to profit from our real estate boom without investing in the general longterm housing/school/infrastructure health of our city). The City Council needs to stand up and do their job which is to provide core services to our city coupled with holistic long term growth management. Yes that's a lot of work and does require City Council to actually do their job. As it stands this bill disempowers tax paying citizens so that City Council members can read about themselves in the national news and feel some smug self congratulatory glow that they improved life in our city. Good luck to them in the next election cycle if this passes.

If we build prisons to feed and shelter criminals, why not build encampments in the sticks somewhere everyone can agree on for the homeless?

Vote no on Council Bill 118794. Allowing camping in our parks is ridiculous and won't solve the problem. It will just push tax paying citizens away.

Please focus immediately on "housing first" strategies instead.

I have grown up here in Seattle and the level of homeless encampments is ridiculous. What are my taxes being used for? Do I still have to pay them if people are allowed to camp in public parks?

This is not the solution. The results will be unsafe and unsanitary, and ultimately not the best for our city's homeless.

This proposal is not a solution. Creating more public restrooms and public garbage bins would be helpful, but allowing camping in parks and on city property endangers residents.

THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN in our city. Why are placing a "jungle" in every neighborhood in Seattle. Who in their right mind puts this in place?

I am very worried about the safety of our children if the city council allows this to happen.

The solution to homelessness warrants redirection to affordable housing and access to mental health care, NOT expansion to encampments in public parks.

This ordinance is a bad idea. I understand the challenges of dealing with the issue of homelessness, but encouraging the homeless to camp in public parks and on sidewalks until further notice is not the answer.

The thinking here, "Let's put them in the big grassy open areas around the city", is childish. Homeless need roofs and treatment, not space to pitch a tent. Parks are used by Seattle residents including children every day. Voting Yes is the type of thing that imperils the careers of city councilmembers.

This needs more thought - there must be better solutions to helping the homeless receive better services than just moving them from "camp" to "camp"

This only creates a secondary problem (keeping our parks safe and sanitary). It does nothing to address the real homelessness issues. Where is our property tax money going? Is O'Brien buying himself a yacht with the funds?

I enjoy taking my family to the parks and greenbelts around West Seattle. I don't want to have the extra worry that we might come upon an encampment with both those unable to find housing and those unwilling to comply with housing requirements, including unregistered sex offenders, addicts, or other criminal elements.
Please reconsider to keep our parks safe, clean, and a viable place for us to enjoy.

Ridiculous situation - no solution to the problem whatsoever; will only create a larger problem
