Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

To pass the proposed ordinance would denigrate our beautiful parks and at the same time create greater risk of harm to our law abiding citizens, especially our children.

while the tents are not totally objectionable the garbage, filth and lack of respect for public property is unacceptable for the general public enjoying these parks. Look out the south window of the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance to observe a garbage-filled homeless camp. Unacceptable!

Councilman Burgess is completely right- this bill is irresponsible, dangerous, and won't help a single person.

Does anyone on the city council have homeless people living in front of their house? Have they picked up needles in their yard? Had their mail stolen? Found used toilet tissue in the shrubbery?

I love my city, and I don't wish to see it turned into an area where no one feels safe, where the public health is threatened, and where residents and businesses leave because of being overrun with tent cities.

The proposed solution is a poor answer to a bad situation. A homeless person of my acquaintance has suggested that all parks should include an area for homeless encampments much as dogs have off leash areas. He says we treat our dogs better than the homeless. I do not believe that either solution is good but it is strange that council members take a proposal from an interest group and place it on the table with little discussion of any options and don't have any ideas of there own. We need to help the homeless but we also need to protect our parks. This proposal is not a solution.

This is a lousy proposal. Look at the messes left behind under the freeway, etc. Open homeless campground on NOAA property @ Sandpoint. We need a WPA type program for homeless and unemployed neighbors. For once stick your scrawny necks out and try a solution, not a temporary fix. Show some cajones for once!!! Phil Keane

We need housing immediately. we should use the model used in the east coast at America oldest mall build small housing using space in mall. Or bring in Fema trailers

We need to start building permanent homes for the homeless now!

Our city needs to be far more inventive in caring for the homeless. We can build jails. Then we can build homeless cells to provide housing, food, referrals.

This has already made the city so dirty already, and will further increase crime.

I've not seen anything that makes sense. Maybe "bus tickets"?
