This is a step backward. Some homeless are drug addicts and severely mentally ill (read:dangerous). This will put the public, especially children, in proximity to potential danger, so the public will stop using the parks. This will effectively change the purpose of Seattle's parks from pleasure and recreation to homeless campsites. Please focus your efforts instead on helping the homeless into housing and recovery.

Vote NO on Bill #118794.
I resent paying taxes for our parks then allowing transients to occupying the parks, chasing our our families and children.

They belong in homes, centers that will help them, etc not out in parks.

Should our parks and similar public spaces become the dumping grounds for unsafe, unhealthy, and thereby unusable for taxpayers and their families – and unsavory to regular non-Seattle visitors – we all should immediately petition the King County Real Estate Taxing agency to have a wholesale reduction of our evaluations. Small businesses adjacent to these “campgrounds” will also feel the loss of business, as well as abuse of their refuse bins needed for their operation. It is extraordinary that this proposal is even out for review. But really, are we really surprised at all that this is the best that our city administration can do?

This is the most stupid thing the City is trying to do in the las 6 months, and you really do a lot of stupid things.

This proposal is absolutely ridiculous. Can you imagine taking your kids to the park and having a bunch of homeless tents there and therefore your kid can't even play freely. There is already a lot of crime in some neighborhoods because of this.

Our parks are for everyone. Making these parks available for the homeless is not fix for our cities issues. Are you really willing to
Move the jungle to the parks?

It's bad enough that we allow people to set up camps in the parks and on the sidewalks that WE all pay for, but how about if they have a little pride in the neighborhoods. What's with the trash everywhere. If you're gonna let them live for free, at least put them to work.

Let's come up with some real solutions! This bill isn't fair to anyone involved.

As a Belltown Resident, this new ordinance concerns me. My wife and I both frequent parks throughout Seattle and run early in the morning and later in the even when it is dark. In addition to safety concerns for other residents, this is not a service to those without a home. We should improve housing options so camping in tents is not necessary.

Allowing camping in parks and other public property will not provide appropriate housing and/or services for the homeless. It will only exacerbate the problem by allowing -- and almost encouraging -- camping in neighborhoods and other areas that will create conflicts, sanitary problems, and possibly permanent encampments.

We need to come up with a better plan, homelessness should not be shunted to our parks and sidewalks!

A friend and I were just chased by a homeless man (on some sort of drug per the police that showed up and the firefighters) yesterday in our community pea patch. We have the right to be able to walk without being harassed.

This is not a solution to homelessness and endangers the safety and welfare of all our neighborhoods.

This is a terrible idea. Look at Portland. Don't ruin our public spaces please.
