Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

Letting people camp anywhere is not the answer our parks are already taxed and the maintenence dollars spread thin. If we need stop) gap measures we need more tent cities with services.

Keep our parks safe

Th Seattle City Council has tried to pas a lot of silly, inane ideas. However this has to at the top. A lot of these homeless people that like being that way because they are not responsible for anything, including paying taxes. With all the homeless out there are you really not thinking.... if only we could get them into housing , just think of the tax$$ we could collect.

Homelessness is no doubt an issue in Seattle, and in society more broadly. We need to think and act creatively to find solutions. However, this cannot be done at a cost of public safety, particularly for our children. Parks are for the enjoyment of all, not some, of our citizens. We need to understand the environmental and safety impacts of these camps (bathrooms, drugs, etc) on our ability to use these parks with a focus on our children. We cannot compromise their safety and/utilization of these parks or we will pay a price for decades to come. Thank you.

Here on Capitol Hill we have seen first-hand the effects of illegal camping: hazardous waste, including massive amounts of used needles. Stop funding that money-pit Pronto, and put the funds toward safe housing for the homeless!

This not only helps them, but helps those around them to get the help that is necessary.

This is not the right solution, rather a short term gain, for long term pain. We need a long term gain solution.

I am a volunteer in reforestation in Madrona woods . Our parks are one of the best things in Seattle . I am strongly opposed to homeless citizens living in our parks Tom Kushner

Can I begin parking my car on the sidewalk or in the city park? If one can camp for extended periods, I assume so can my car.

City Parks are paid for by tax payers for the use of their families and children to play in SAFE outdoor space. Homeless are not tax payers, they do not clean up their living space and drug habits should not be allowed in] public spaces where children are playing. Seattles public spaces are an embarassment to our city.

Seattle's mayor Ed Murray is a joke!

I know that this is too practical -- but it would be nice to have a solution to the problem before you make it worse. Yes, the jungle is a problem - but where is the solution now that you have cleaned it out? How stupid can you be. Filling parks with the homeless is not a practical or safe solution. Tim Burgess is right and it is irresponsible.

Pitching this as a temporary ordinance shows that the city council does not understand the homeless population.

Lots of empty city/federal bldgs should be used to provide shelter not streets and parks. Protect our kids.

If this passes property owners should refuse to pay property taxes for the recently passed Seattle Parks District!

Our public parks and spaces support the physical, emotional and spiritual health of our community. Our compassion for the homeless need not erode the sanctity and safety of these resources.
