Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

My son's elementary school shares their playground/field with a city park. Recently during school there was a tent pitched right in the middle of where they play soccer. Homelessness is a big epidemic... but hosting them in public parks is not the answer.

I want to feel safe when I go for a walk in the park. This is PUBLIC space and should not be taken over by any group for more than a few hours. It would be like walking through someone's back yard.

For the safety of our children, and the hope for a better answer to our homeless issues!

The City Council has lost their minds if they approve this bill. Have any of them actually gone to some of these camping sites to see the damage caused. Please do so.

This is bad, real bad. Only another way to bleed the taxpayer and home owners, and it will not work.

It is still hard for me to believe that this ridiculous proposal would actually be considered. City leaders aren't thinking about how unsafe and terrible it will be for kids to walk around homeless encampments as the try to play sports and enter schools!

We need to stop giving out a "free lunch" to these people. The "word' has gotten out that you can campout on Seattle, and not be bothered. We did not have this mess when the recession happened. This is all the mayor's and his bleeding heart council that created this mess.

I am all for working with communities, the city and the growing numbers of homeless in addressing the best way to get people back under a permanent roof - including proper treatment for those in need of mental health and health care. There are so many reasons behind what generates homelessness and it is time to create a community safety net of viable solutions - not shove the issue into our public parks.

This bill will ruin the jewels of Seattle living, our parks.

This is not a solution for the homeless. This is as embarrassment for anyone who live or comes to Seattle. The City Council needs to focus on real permanent solutions.

This is ridiculous. Perhaps a good intention but people have not thought this thru!

What dumbass came up with this idea? Tent cities have resulted in dumps and higher crime. Why would anyone want to trash Alki?

More work needs to be done by the City before making such a major policy change. If the city's homeless consultant recommended not setting up tent cities why is this advice not being followed.

Please keep our parks safe for our children! There are so many parks now full of needles and encampment that our kids can't play a ball game for fear of a) hitting a sleeping homeless person b) how safe is it to play hide and go seek with a camp full of unknown people sleeping and using drugs. Give the taxpayers and parents their parks back!

The city needs to start thinking of the hard working families in the community more. Families who don't have alot of money to go on vacations utilize the parks for week fun, filling them with needles and human feces will keep them from being able to enjoy what their hard earned taxes help pay for. Also maybe the parks department should stop paying for use less projects and use that money to help clean up the areas al ready being occupied by the homeless.

As a mother of young children, I do not feel comfortable bringing my family to parks if there are homeless people camping there. We have beautiful parks, let's make sure they stay open and welcoming to everyone.

As a mother of young children who spend a lot of time at Seattle parks, this is very concerning.

Our children need the parks.

A one way bus ticket to Arizona would be cheaper and put these folks in a warm, dry location.
